Specialized have released the 2015 rockhopper with 650B wheels and the new frame design is ugly. £1000 and suntour fork, tektro discs, and sunrace cassette, think these guys have totally lost the plot the specification is rubbish. They must be just selling bikes on reputation. Any opinions guys and girls.

Who cares if they change the design the next year?

If your current bike is a good bike and rides well then it doesn't stop being a good bike the next year regardless of its wheel size.

The 2015 rockhopper pro evo 650B comes with tektro disc brakes, sram x5 and an A1 frame for £1200. Who the hell buys these bikes at that price it just beggars belief. They must be selling lots of them because they are constantly lowering the specification every year and hiking the price up. This model is a worse specification and double the price of what the 2008 rockhopper models were.

Strange ins't it, especially considering nothing else in the world has gone up in price since 2008.

What other goods have doubled in price and are a far worse specification over the last 6 years?

Lots of things, go Google it.

Specialized do this year after year anyway, it;'s nothing new.

I think he has a point. Normal inflation would not have got it to this price alone. A RR on par with the whole spec of that is about half the price.

Just because they 'do it every year' doesn't mean the point is not a valid one.

The frame used to be M4 aluminium and now they use A1 aluminium which was first introduced on the rockhopper frame around 1994.

What a shock! New bike has the same size wheels as every other new bike.
    I could not give a ****

    Bird Aeris : Trek Remedy 9.9 29er : Trek Procaliber 9.8 SL
  • `s a fair point though.

The bike has a worse spec than most £600 bikes,, Is the frame that good, or is it the name?.

Specializeds massive U Turn to 650b is worse of all. Just like Giant, Boardman and many others.

650B and 29ers are just pure marketing bullshit on a monumental scale, giant were telling us a couple of years ago how the 29ers were the holy grail and now they are dumping the entire line up for 650B. Maybe in 3 years time they will come out with 625B LOL. The whole scenario is just a laughing stock, do they think that the vast majority of us are that gullible?

Bikes are evolving - I don't see the big deal with the wheel sizes. 29ers were an idea to solve what some perceived as a problem with 26ers - I didn't agree with it as a concept anyway but 29ers evolved from slow turning pieces of crap to half decent bikes to really good bikes (TallBoy LT, Remedy 29er) but there are still problems with them, the main one being that clown wheels are ridiculous and even the small frame one I chucked a leg over didnt suit my tiny little body.

650B is supposed to be a mid ground - not sure personally not having particularly ridden a 29er in anger or even a comparable bike to mine in a 26er. I know in comparison to my old Heckler, that the Bronson is faster, I believe it caries speed better over rough ground, rolls better over obstacles but isnt as nimble and easy to lift and manual.

As for the rockhoppers perceived value - sure its not on par with a Boardman or a Vitus or a Canyon but the fact is they will sell and for 90% of people that buy them, they will do everything they need them to do.
    Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.

650b and 29ers are the biggest con in bicycle history and that is a fact. even supersonic would not argue with that and he is the daddy of them all on bike radar and that is a fact.

29ers had some real noticeable differences. They didn't appeal to everyone but to those who get on with them 29" wheels can give a big advantage.
650b just feels like 26". Friends who have changed to 650b aren't noticeably faster on them and friends who have 650b downhill bikes wish they hadn't bothered, three have gone back to 26" already.

So why do they wish they hadn't bothered and why are they switching back if they feel just the same? And why does it always sound like you're making stuff up?
