"In the form of his life", then out of contention for TdF and now a very lacklustre performance in Switzerland.

Is this the prelude to a sad divorce from Team $ky?

Very shoddy treatment. Poor old Wiggo.

He has definitely contributed to the situation but not sure you can lay the blame entirely at his feet. Takes two to tango and maybe he has been treated shoddily.

Were Froome not around, His career, value to and treatment by the team would probably be very different. He does need to move on asap. Fresh start needed methinks but age is against him.

If Froome was not around Sky would have invested in a GC contender who can climb with the likes of Quintana and Contador. Once Froome came along he was always going to be second choice. You have to go with your best rider for a given race and Froome is their man for the big ones and it puts a dent in Wiggo's ego or he would have buckled down and rode for Froome in the tour without the drama. Wiggos best bet for glory is on the track if he can get his head right.

People feeling sorry for him are wasting their own pity. He's getting paid an awful lot of money to toddle around Switzerland feeling sorry for himself while putting in less than 100%.

Froomy seems delicate both physically and mentally at the moment. I'm not betting on him to win in France.

I think $ky are gambling without Wiggo as backup at the TdF.

An injured Froome will do better than Sir Wiggo. Wiggo is past it as a GC rider in a grand tour. Given a weak field of climbers with a TT that can be decisive in terms of the overall then he can still challenge for GC but only in shorter races.

Does that mean you honestly think Wiggins could perform in the TdF? Seriously?

Froome managed to win two stages before his crash, and ended up with the points jersey. Physically his taken a knock, but he'll be fine. Mentally I don't see any frailty.

As for back ups - I'd bet on Nieve ahead of Wiggins on current form.

Yep, with Rich on this one. I'd even say Froome came out mentally ahead of Contador.

Contador's 'mistake' marking Froome on stage 8? Once he realised he put on quite a show. Froome must be worried about his resilience over 3 weeks. I think this might be behind the manic attacks on stage 2. Rather than control things he chose to blow it up while fresh, but a quite an energy cost.

I think he is lucky Sky doesn't cancel his contract. There are too many sports stars who think contracts are one way things. Tevez is a good example.

"As for Bradley, he sustained grazing and bruising to the muscles on his right leg, which will be treated overnight and the team doctor will be reviewing his injury in the morning.

“Bradley has been carrying a mild chest infection from the weekend so he has been taking antibiotics and his condition has improved. Racing with this illness has affected him a bit, but he’s shown his commitment and has worked really well for the team.”

Like it or not, he's still Sky's headline act (the company not necessarily the team) and so far this year he's been flying... Really don't understand the criticism here looking at his performances this year... Even off the bike he's been pretty much on message throughout.

Most likely (if anything has actually been determined) Brailsford gave him the score post Tour of Cali, but we really have no idea what was said behind closed doors...

I agree, he does seem he can be temperamental, but I don't join the dots when people say 'he had it coming' or looking at recent performances...

A rider can win the Tour, Romandie, Dauphine, Paris Nice and Olympic TT in one year and yet one disaster of a Giro and he is pretty much written off. Of course he still has the potential to perform at the Tour, in the right circumstances even win it.

So, Geraint Thomas was negotiating his new contract with the team recently.

In the l'equipe interview Wiggins confirmed he'd not been offered an extension (yet).

    Maths and all that.

Nah - Contadors mistake was his downhill attack. It said he knew under normal circumstances he's not going to get away uphill. He did the later, but there are questions about if Froome was at 100% then.

Stage 8 he just played poker and lost. That happens in racing. I don't think either of them are going to be worrying a huge amount but IMO Froome came out slightly better.

Plausible. Contador faded badly week 3 last year too. They're well matched. Contador with the stronger team. Nieve the better wingman. Game on.

Will Nieve be the last man or Porte? I'd have Nieve but Porte seems to be Froome's man.

Out of interest, if Wiggins is fit enough this year to be a GT contender, why don't/didn't Sky get him to target the Giro or the Vuelta?

    Huge Wiggo fan but

    1 - He isn't
2 - Parcour for any of the GTs doesnt suit him
3 - Sky need to keep longer term prospects happy (Porte, Giro - Froome - TdF, Henao - Vuelta)
4 - He was talking of focussing on Rio 2016, which if BC stick to their word means he has to focus on track from next summer, so point 3 was defo in their minds
5 - He is on a fat contract which is up this year, if they drop him they wont want the UCI points walking out of the team when they could go to longer term prospects

    6. They wanted him at California as he's the teams biggest draw on that side of the pond and they had a major US sponsor to keep happy.

Reality is he's the biggest draw this side also...

From what I can see this isn't about performance - he has shown performances that merit selection, it's about personalities clashing...which is a shame as I really fail to understand how that couldn't be reconciled... There's perhaps more to it than is let on
