Good rides by Kiryenka and Talansky.

There seems to be a new fashion for very visible zips on TT skin suits. Froome's got a big white zip at the front, Contador a big blue zip on the back.

    This descent is horrible.

Nibbles faster than Froome and Contador on the climb.

Contador looking very lean...his TT bike almost looks to big for him. Nibali very compact. Froome gangly as ever.

Oh that was disappointing. The preying mantis wins by....8 secs whereas 2-10 separated by 5 secs

    Bring on the mountains.

That was actually pretty exciting for a prologue!

Edit - yes yes I know its not technically a prologue...

I think we're going to be grateful that the Tour de France TT is on stage 20.

Let's wait and see how everyone goes uphill before we start proclaiming the TDF is already won shall we?

I know surprise is the order of the forum this weekend, but is Froome Spanking Bertie really that surprising?

No. But I wasn't expecting such a big spanking considering how close the other times had been.

But if you were just told that Froome beat Jungels by 9 seconds and Brandle by 13, you'd just shrug your shoulders and go 'Meh'. It's not a stellar TT field.

Contador was actually better than I expected. He's usually a little off at the Dauphine having not raced for two months.

Contador was a damn sight better than last year's Dauphine TT.

Going last gives you an advantage. 8 sec is nothing. Contador said he was going to take things easier and not risk to much on the technical bits. Nibali for some reason looked better to me. I think Garmin with Ryder and TJ could blow this race apart. I hope so.

No, but based on Contadors recent form I assumed he was back on the Beef again.

The TDF is already won.

Can someone point out where he's been in especially good form for me?

He's won a few chippers on Hail Mary Breakaways that have stuck because spanish teams won't chase another spnaiard in Spain. Is there any evidence at all that if he arrives at the base of a climb with the main players that he can put any significant time into anyone else?

The next few days should show obviously...

I know he's in good form, a true champion and a smashing bloke because Frenchie has conditioned me to believe this.

Interesting result. Seems like Contador took it easyish (said so himself, he was a bit worried about oil on the road). All the others behind Froome were closely grouped. Some say he's not the best bike handler so I assume he was just super strong into the headwind.
I didn't realize (40 year old) Sebastien Hinault was still racing!
