He's anticipating the attachment of Ryder & Pierre, no?

He can't climb quite as fast, but if he gets a decent head start.

    That's how I'm reading it.

Pirazzi has Zardani in support - strong climber.

Front group have a gap of 4:30 to the Rolland group. That's a decent head start.

18.5 km, 4.38 to Rolland then 5.41 to Pirazzi. No gap to Uran (possibly just another 30secs).

Cannondale riding very hard on the front. Not sure why. Basso surely can't think he can win the stage?

He doesnt want to lose position to Rolland and Hesjedal.

Front group are onto the final climb. Quinziato and Timmer have a slight gap.
  • Can the racing at least try to be as good as the scenery please?

Movistar take up the chase. Uran sitting in the middle of the group, but then he almost always does.

Could be close. I don't think the Rolland group have much chance.

I've got a feeling Quintana is feeling good today. Could see him try to bridge to Izagirre.

Yep. Which is not what I thought at the start of the day.

Timmer going very well and he is not what I would consider a climber. The others in the break are lightweights.

Zlodi has not hit the front once...

    Arredondo has attacked the peloton.
