Is it the Cateye front light I had for my bike, that one night (and the last) almost caused me to miss the 90 degree bend in the road and almost go straight on, into the metal gate of a famers field? You could see my heartrate go off the scale on Strava and it wasn't even uphill.

About 0.000001 candle power and illuminates a patch the size of a postage stamp.

No correct answers yet, but you do apply power to it

Is it for making corks for miniature wine bottles????

You swing it at a cork tree, the hollow pointy bit goes in, you then pull the hammer away from the tree and push the plunger which pushes out a perfect little wine bottle cork from the hollow pointy bit. 8)

Wine is so expensive in Scandinavia that they can't afford full size bottles with full size corks :D:D

Don't you just love System Bolaget?

    Nothing close yet.

You're on the right lines that it's an electrical device, sort of, you've just got to find what it does.

  • Although not the shape I've seen before, it looks a bit like some sort of gas-arc light; the tube is filled with low pressure pure gas and HT current passed through it. As it 'slumps' back after excitation the gas emits light of characteristic colours.

It also reminds me of an X-ray source I saw somewhere once.

That'll be because that's what it is. :)

    How big is this?

  • About 3cm in diameter.

  • As it has gone quiet, here is an image of a similar object with the same function,
  • It's gone quiet because we're all stuck.

The silver bit looks a bit like a button/dial on a stereo, but the pipe section looks like a rubber tube is fitted to it.

I've not used one of those for years!

It's going to need some clues T&W.
