I think it's a sort of pooter (although this sort may have another name) - you put the red end in your mouth and suck, and the vacuum allows you to pick up stuff with the other end. Pooters are used for picking up insects and things (with a larger collection chamber and a gauze to stop you sucking them into your mouth accidentally), but as this version has a scale on it, I assume it's for fluids, maybe with a diaphragm in that bulge to avoid ingestion. A bit like a pippette, but with a larger capacity.???
  • Jimothy78 is on the right track. But the volumes involved are small. I would have expected this design to have become redundant in the mid-70s but it appears they are still on the market, with liability disclaimers.

Another clue tomorrow if needed. Between you, you are close.

It looks like some form of pipette to me. You stick the red bit in your mouth to suck the liquid up into the plastic bit, and you have to cover the hole while you do this. Let finger off to release the liquid into another container

The older I get, the better I was.

    Suction pipette for blood cells.

    Is this your object? http://m.indiamart.com/proddetail.php?i=4393406430

Part of a haemometer set. Which is used for measuring haemoglobin concentration in blood by the Sahlia method.

If I've got it right, can I post the next picture please?

Is it possible to have a glimpse into Piña's world that isn't unnerving?

Close enough. It is a blood dilution pipette for diluting red blood corpuscles - as indicated by the red mixer bead.

    Is this from a ship?

This particular one in the photo happened to be fitted to a ship (hence the need for a dab of rust remover) ....

... but some other examples are not.

The object is also used elsewhere.

The object in the photo... on its own... is not a weapon. The example in the photo could be used with a weapon but similar objects are used in other applications where weapons are not involved.

    Congratulations.
    Correct, correct and correct.

The story behind the Graf Spee is quite interesting. The ranger finder is kind of described at 13:59 to 14:44
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciPoIz1qqNg

From what I know, the range finder creates two images in eye pieces, like a pair of binoculars. These images are out of focus with each other. You adjust the optics until both create an in-focus crisp clear image. As you adjust the focal settings the trigonometry of the optics calculates the range.
