    That was disappointingly quick. Yes, they're piston seals. And since I don't know (a) what they're from or (b) what the seals from an HPLC pump look like, I'll have to give you the benefit of the doubt.

    HPLC is 'high performance liquid chromatography' (although some people substitute 'pressure' for 'performance'). They work at high pressures, and the pumps I've seen consist of a piston which is a little smaller in diameter than the pencil in your pic (obviously really :roll: ) and sometimes made of a ruby. I've had to replace the seals in the past.


    I'll have a look around today for something to photograph, but it might have to wait until I get home.
