Well that was seriously impressive but can't help wondering the reaction if a rider in black and blue Rapha kit had done that, probably meltdown on a Chernobyl scale.

Chapeau to King though, attacked out of the neutralised zone and held on for third.

Just about within touching distance then Bertie lights the afterburners.

Great ride by Bert, regardless of where you stand on him.

Not a fan of those stupidly steep climbs though.
Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.

    Friggin ridiculous in all respects.
Comedy climbs have no place at WT level.

Tinkoff set to finish the race in 1st and 2nd.

Looking at the profile yesterday I thought that anyone making a move on the Passo Lanciano, and making it stick would be well deserving of the win today. Totally dominant by Contador there.

Hopefully it means the Tour will be more competitive this year. Kreuziger looking solid as well.

I was rooting for the beard but looks like Contador has got his extra kick back.

Contador simply is the best state racer of his generation and there is no one that is coming close.

It really is a wonderful sport when you get the best in the business duke it out from distance. Not a factory made and scientifically trained train in site. Sky got totally pumped today once again apart from Nieve who is not a Sky rider really. Sky fans need to add this stage to their cache of how to race like a true champion notebook.

I feel sorry for any Contador haters who can't revel in the joy that the Contador fans have and the fans of real racing have.

A great day for cycling fans globally. The way Contador was floating and moving on the climb was beautiful.

    Pure unadulterated panache.

    Have to agree, Frenchie.
The best, long distance solo effort I've seen since Floyd's tour winning ride to Morzine.

I don't think there is any need to use Bert's ride as some kind of stick to beat Sky with.

And I bet both Bert and Roman are scientifically trained. It's 2014, not 1973.

So, Contador has caught Valverde's disease.
Sneak a stage win and ignore the GC.
Sad to see a past champion reduced to poaching a palmarès.
Probably realises that he'll be out the back tomorrow
    on Kwiatkowski's ramp.

Great stuff. Now if Alberto will just oblige with a competitive TT we could have a season on our hands.

Agree with the circus act gradients. No need for that.

Is this veiled insinuation or genuine praise?

I wonder where Valverde would have come today.

Hansen had a great ride , when he came back into shot with Contador . Brilliant stuff.

Cadel very disappointing . Something is so wrong there. He really has dropped way down.

I reckon Contador wasted a bit of time waiting for Quintana to grab his wheel. He could have gone a bit earlier.

Contador still needs to get his TT up to speed to beat Froome unless Froome completely collapse's ,

    which I doubt.

I doubt he would have been able to hang on today.

What about Contador early attack at the Vuelta , that was pretty good as well.

But where's the line between a tough climb and a circus? Used sparingly, a short brutal wall adds to the variety and my enjoyment, as long as it doesn't screw the overall competition (much like a mid-length TT really).
