Majorca, I love it.

[quote="OwenB. Another group stayed at the Pollensa Park which they said was ok but the accommodation was a little tired. [/quote]
I stayed in Pollensa Park and it looked a bit dated. That was in 1996 and would be surprised if they had done any work there since my last stay.
I was planning to go somewhere other than Majorca this September for a change but can't find anywhere as good, easy to get too or cheap. Might book a week tomorrow.0 -

Can anyone recommend a good hotel/aparthotel that is reasonably priced and has good facilities for cyclists?
List so far is Hotel Diana, Duva and Puerto Azul (bit too expensive) and we would prefer to have at least B&B.
Any others worth considering based on personal experience?0 -
Hows the weather out there at the moment ?
Im due out for a couple of days first week of Feb so hoping for a bit of sun and not too chilly. Staying in the South West to try out some of the routes around that area0 -

We were in Palma for New Year.
Good days were 18'C and sunny.
Bad days were 12'C and a bit rainy.
Still like that now, bit of a mix. If you get lucky, you could be in shorts!
There's some excellent routes and climbing to be done in the SW.0 -

I touched on it last time i was there and went down to Port D'Andrax. Was feeling a bit under the weather so decided not to go any further. really looking forward to riding the coastal road all the way around to Soller0 -

We have had a brilliant January here in the north. Amazing blue skies and sunny days. Max has been 19.5 and lows overnight between 6 and 9.
Jan and Feb are a bit hit and miss, so fingers crossed for your trip. A positive to keep in mind is that with the weather so changeable at this time of the year a bad day will surely be followed by a good (half full way of looking at it!). But, even a bad day here for us may be loads better than you have experienced over the past few months :-)
I took these pics 3 days ago, and they give a good example of the weather we have been having https://www.tramuntanacycling.com/en/ga ... or-gallery
Let us know how your trip pans out.0 -
We have booked one of the apartments at the Duva Pollensa mid April. Never been before but seems great value for the price and seems to be a good base for a few days of riding.
Just hope the weather is good in April0 -

ONE WORD ......Club Pollentia Resort its half way round the bay to Alcudia but has two rental shops on site and allows you to keep bike sin your room or on the balcony .
Food imho was outstanding with fresh squeezed juices for breakie along with a omelet station and all the usual fare you would expect they even had a fruit chef preparing freshly cut fruit lol .
Dinner was just as good with plenty of choices including outstanding salads etc etc
2 huge swimming pools and acres of grounds .....i like it so uch i will be back there second week of May as well .
IMHO its deffo worth the extra money , shoot me a pm if you want anymore info .0 -

Much like the UK April can be hit and miss. Sometimes in the mid 20s and clear skies sometimes more like 15 and overcast, the evenings and early mornings can be chilly so take arm warmers.0 -
+1 for the Puerto Azul. I really wish I could get back there this year but it looks unlikely now.0

Just Booked 10 days at Duva Aparthoyel, from 5th May. Just need to sort bike hire out now.0

Hi Guys,
My apologies for resurrecting an old thread but I was hoping someone may have a nice route from port de pollenca to San Salvador (quiet flattish roads if possible as the day before we will spend some time climbing)
Many thanks0 -
Question for the residents :
Im planning to ride Puig Major from Soller and then through to the top of Sa Calobra before riding down towards Selva either Friday or Saturday this week.
Weather forecasts on the net are varied with some saying snow and that temperatures at the top of Puig could be well below freezing.
Trust me to be out there on one of their coldest weekends of the year and altho cold doesnt bother me, ice on a descent does.0 -

What is the question exactly?!
At the top of Puig Major you're pretty much on top of a mountain, with all that entails for weather......0 -
One website says snow and freezing temps as low as 600m another says bright and sunny.
Is it likely to be rideable ? Are the roads gritted ? do they close the roads when it snows ? Am i better off just avoiding all together ?0 -

With lows of 2 and 3' in Palma, it is more than likely it'll be at zero or below at the top of the Pig. And therefore any precipitation will be snow. Not sure if they grit it or not, but personally I'd steer clear; the climb would be OK, but the descent (which is long and fast) would freeze your nuts off, and then you've got to worry about staying upright.
On a clear day you can see the mountains from most parts of Majorca which helps judge how much snow.0 -
Thanks Bernie.
That was my thoughts however im going with a mate and its his first time and he was really looking forward to doing his first big climb so would be pretty disappointed to miss out on it.
Not to worry - we are staying in Santa Ponsa so have got the ride in the SW which has some decent climbs that wont be as bad0 -

If your in Santa Ponca try El Ceibo's if it's open for the best steak you may ever have.
They used to open up in May for the season but were open last March when we went so could be open now.
We've been going 10 years and it's always brilliant.
And there'll be no waiting for tables at this time of year.

Been in Pollenca since Sunday. With the exception of Monday it's rained every day and temps have been low single digits. Tried to do Sa Calobra today, but they shut the road due to rain/snow/ice so couldn't even do Coll de Femenia again. On the bright side I'm finding new and inventive ways to dry out my kit. Shame I packed for 10+ degree weather.English Cycles V3 | Cervelo P5 | Cervelo T4 | Trek Domane Koppenberg0

Here you are https://www.strava.com/activities/205156899 (that's a route from Cala d'Or to Port de Pollenca but it goes past the San Salvador turn off near Felanitx). From the coast after Alcudia you're on one constant climb pretty much all the way up to Felanitx, then of course a massive climb to San Salvador.
Some of the roads are nice cycling roads, especially South of Petra, others really aren't, in the UK they would be primary A-roads.0 -

Another resurrection of this thread, for those that have been and taken other half's.
My good lady wife has given the green light for a trip to the island next year, she is a keen runner and swimmer but equally likes the beach.
Can anyone suggest a nice hotel that would cater for both activities prior to some joint lounging around in the sun?
Did you book direct with any recommends and was there any issues?
Will likely hire a bike for this trip in hopefully early May 2016.
Thanks in advance VHEnigma Esprit Di2 - Go tI ! Summer !0 -
VillaConcha in Purteo Pollena.
Have stayed there 7 times. Highly recommended.0 -
Just booked a trip for 5 days in April 16 staying at the Pollentia Club Resort in Puerto Pollensia.
I think the two onsite hire shop are Balear Reisen and Max Hurzeler. A few of the group would like to try Canyons which Balear Reisen hire out, but when looking at their website the bikes/prices haven't been updated since the 2014 season and there doesn't appear to be any any way to actually hire the bikes. Does anyone have any recent experience with Balear Reisen or have any contact email address so I can make an enquiry?
Thanks0 -
I used BR last year . had a few communication issues , the e mails were dropping into my spam for some reason!
I hired a focus izalco sram red , was a great bike and and was such a holiday romance that I was going to buy it.
Max H is on the same site i used to pop in most days and have a chat they recommended some rides and were great for info about the island.
I was very apprehensive about bike hire , never having rode abroad before , but the whole experience was spot on .
I would not hesitate to recommend BR .regards

Morning,
Used BR earlier this summer and rented a Canyon Ultimate CF for 7 days. Total cost €105.00 which is great value.
Maybe not the quickest response times to e-mails and the gentleman whom I collected the bike from could have been a little more customer friendly but don't let that get in the way.
Will definitely use them again. No doubt about that.0 -

Funny you should mention that about the chap at BR .
I thought the same when I picked the bike up (Assuming it is the same guy) but after a couple of days popping in and talking bikes , he could not have been more helpful .
