"Plasma" is a slightly unfortunate name when you put it like that0 -
Where is all the fussing over the new Hour Record Holder ? The press couldn't get enough of cheery Jens ?0
-
I think you answered your own question there. Jens is a very well known and well loved personality who's been around since the dawn of time. Brandle, although I'm sure he is a nice guy and is obviously talented, doesn't have the draw that Jensie has. The hour record in itself isn't that exciting for most people but Jens was the main attraction I think.0

Just wondering why no-one has mentioned Chris Froome yet? He is after all a pretty good TT'er. Surely it would be good for Sky to have 2 potential champs...
And will Tony Martin really do it at this stage of his career? After all I think Mercx said it was the hardest thing he'd ever done and was perhaps never quite the same ride afterwards.TM still has a long career ahead of him. Be interesting to see how Brandle's career progresses over the next few months. And Wiggo & Fabs are getting towards the end of their careers...0 -
Tech question for those who know. When EM and Boardman did their ride they had to be assisted off the bike yet having seen Brandle he looked like he'd done a v.hard effort but was able to walk off the bike and sit there while being blood tested/congratulated etc. What's changed?M.Rushton0

In one way you answered your own question about Froome, he still sees himself as a GT winner and doesn't want the distraction. Also he's not a bad TT'er but even if he did break it Wiggo or Cancellara would quickly eclipse it and it would have been a wasted effort (unless he gets paid a lot of cash to have a go)0 -

Position on the bike might count for some of that. Boardman's 2000 record on a standard bike required extreme effort combined with supporting the upper body purely with the hands on the handlebars. The modern and older superman records have elbow support so less energy is wasted in supporting the upper body0 -

He did what he needed to in order to break the record but didn't really go to the limits as he presumably knows it wouldn't stand long even if he broke himself in the process.0 -
When you know you have it in the bag then you simply don't go as deep. Look at Pinsent in his last two Olympics. Winning by a length he was smiling seconds after he crossed the line, messing about and falling in the water. Winning by only 10cm utterly wrecked him. He could barely stand and eventually broke down with uncontrollable crying. You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.0 -

Spoke with Joan Llaneras (former World Champion who runs the Palma Velodrome) today - and asked him about the Wiggins story - that he might attempt the record in Palma.
He didn't sound too convinced it was going to happen. But he DID confirm the velodrome runs a lot faster in the summer when the building is warm.0 -

Some guy from Sporza is having a go during the 6 day on Friday night. He's been training for 3 weeks... says he just wants to understand how hard it is"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Trying a TT bike for the first time.
Is struggling to be in position for more than 5 minutes without getting cramps in his neck and his holders.0 -
The article I read said he'd borrowed Boonen's track bike for training and that big fat Tom Steels was giving him tips.
It's not at the six, my bad. It's in the Flemish Cycling Centre on the other side of town and in the afternoon ."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

I don't know if this has been discussed but I'm surprised that Michael Hutchinson doesn't have a crack before it gets put out of reach.
He really wasn't that far of Boardmans record so you'd imagine he'd be competitive with the new rules and current distance.0
