Is it that obvious :) felt like a red bull special stage. . . .
  • Ok so today I went and got one of them bike stands while they were on sale, I've been doing more and more at home and been hanging the bike from the rafters by string to work on it so this seems more logical choice. There has been a lot of talk about it so ought I would review it, even after such little use.

    Stockist - Lidl
    Price - £29.99
    Materials - Plastic & metal
Functions , adjustable height, adjustable angle, top tube mount, seat tube mount, folds flat & includes tool tray
    My rating 4/5

The stand way easy to assemble straight form the box and goes together with only a few bolts and by simply using the QR connectors for the tubes ..

I was surprised by the chunky feel and the fact it seems to be well made.

The stand has four legs and feet that fold out that can be bolted down to the flow if you so wish. It has a large leg spread which is great for stability but sadly means it takes up lots of floor space and in not ideal of using Parallel to a wall

Hanging the bike on it (28lbs) I was once again shocked the bike sits well and the angle fo the bike can be simply adjusted without tools and the clamps hold firm, the bike does not wobble any more than other bike stands I have used and theory time I think it would need care is if you wanted to loosen a particular tight crank bolt for example but just do that on the floor !

Overall I think it's well made sturdy and amazing value for money, pleased I brought it. I will however be replacing the bolts ( Allen key heads ) as although these don't need tightening out the box as they come pre tightened and holt the qr clamps on it appears 2 have round heads ( assume they are tightened with machine in the factory ) shame really but two Allen bolts won't cost much at all.

Pros: great vale - folds flat - holds a bike firm - adjustable - looks good - stable 4 leg construction

Cons: bolts need to be changed on mine - take up a lot of floor space

Hope this helps others make their decision.

The green on the cranks really suits the bike with all the other green accents and little bits you have changed, really like this.. let me have it? :-)

    Thanks mate :)
  • Bike is now 28.8lbs

Weighed on the same scales as all other weights.

    Getting there
  • Although I don't get many replies I hope this information might be useful to some.

A while back I got some Conti Rubber Queen black chilli 2.2 (folding), I did lots of reading and they seemed to be about the best for what I need them for and not that heavy at 650g's each.

However today whilst riding the tyre sidewall has become hugely misshaped its like I've got a massive wheel buckle but the wheel is true. A quick google informs me I am sadly not the only one and it appears it is the unspoken floor in these tyres.

Never the less I have been so impressed with these tyres and as the issue seems to be only on a few reported cases ill give them another go and get another ordered up. But I will give Conti a call and discuss this with them.

While I was taking the wheel off I have always wondered how heavy these wheels were, the bike gets good reviewed but is chunky out the factory at 30lbs aprox, I've got mine down a bit but there is much more yet to do.

Part of this I always knew was the wheel but I was shocked today to stop them down to find their true weight

Here are the figures which I hope people find useful as when I looked I could not find anything for these wheels

    Front
Wheel , bare except stans valve 1003g's
    Disc 180mm avid 132g's
    Bolts x 6 13g's
    Qr 57g's

Total front weight EXC tyre and stans liquid 1205g's !

Rear is the same but with a DC22 hub to increase the total weight to 1342g's excluding cassett, tyre and liquid.

Total wheel , discs, qr weight 2547g's

    Total bare wheel weight 2169g's

Heavy heavy wheels ! And heavy discs too, big room for improvement given that most wheels suitable for the job, hope pro 2 & mavic rims weigh aprox 1650g's

Given they say rotating mass is equal to 4 x sprung weight that's good :)

Really like this thread and your bike. I had the same bike but 2009 model. Its very good to see the changes and progress your making on the bike. I have changed the wheels on my bike from standard and it does make a noticable difference going to lighter set ups. Superstar do good deals on wheelsets so it may be worth having a look. I have Flows on switch hubs for £140 (Clearance offer) and have never had a problem.

1650g for the pair and for £140 these are an absolute bargain aslong as you like white? You can't even get the rims this cheap on their own. The crest wheels are aimed more for xc riding however I know of a few riders that use them more on trail bikes, anything from 100mm travel to 150mm bikes and the rims are still perfect.

Thanks mate, I think it's a 410 post / 125mm drop but to be honest 410 is way to one as most the post is just hidden in the frame now.

I hope to do a full review of the post soon, including the decision on going for this over the refurb. Not really fair to give an opinion yet although I will say the remote lever is dangerously sharp to be pointing towards my leg !
  • Picked up some

TLD knee and Shin and Elbow and forearm guards

Super comfy and you literally do forget they are on I was shocked I can't believe something so big and intrusive looking can be so discrete out on the trail. I think the elbow ones will get hot in the summer but for the protection they offer me, for me it's a small trade off.

  • :D I'm to busy riding to take pictures ha !

Today went and shredded Thetford forest with the team, really enjoyed it, we went off route a fair bit and there is some great riding there given its largely flat terrain. Some a,axing flowing sections ... It's all on strava :)

The dropper really came into its own today I can't believe how much I used it even somewhere like Thetford...was brilliant to tuck it up and get rid of it to allow me to throw the bike about more.

Since routing the cable properly and using the jagwire outer and inner the "feel" of the thomson has improved 100%, this could also be the fact it's wearing in and all the parts that were new are bedding in.... The remote lever is still terrifyingly sharp and pointy to be angled towards my leg however I think that is the only downside with the Thomson.

Overall I'm happy with the purchase but I can't lie its a huge amount of money for a seat post.
  • That is a very nice looking bike you have there

Thanks for this ... I am desperate for some new wheels as it goes.. The superstar deal looks brilliant but not sure the white rims would suit the bike slough the weight vs price makes them super attractive.

I've been looking at a hope pro 2 build with something like a stans flow or even a. Mavic 717/719 rim but they all weight 1900g a pair built which is just to much for me

I'm tipping the scales at about 88/90 kg so the crests would be pushinng it but I see no problem keeping them true.

If I went for them there would be a saving of aprox 800g's ... Vs say 300/400g with a hope build .. The hope build however I could spec to my liking at it would be strong but the weight diffrence is huge ! Any ideas anyone

Lose some weight and buy the Crests, win win.

Sound advise :) god knows it would make climbing hills easier :)

But .... White rims on this bike ... Really .....

Is the limit on crests really strict ... Surely they could be ok ?
