Tragic when people die young, but I have to confess to never have heard of him.
Obviously not my type of films. No disrespect intended.

1270 produced...that is pretty rare for a car actually...

From the pictures it looks like they were going at massive speed in a built up area, no sympathy I'm afraid.

If anything I feel more for the families. The drivers as they will have the crud sued of of them as he was obviously an idiot. And for the Walkers for knowing he got in a car driven by an idiot.

It is sad for any deaths but it did not need to happen cars don't just hit lamp posts.

Yeah, looking at the state of the car, it was not close to the speed limit, that's for sure

I used to like coming to this forum, even though I took some stick, I didn't mind so much as I thought it was simple banter but seriously, some of you guys are lower than a grass snake.
Very quick to condemn a man and have the sympathy of praying mantis (no offence to my PM)

The Carrera GT has the fuel cell close to the side impact area so in fact it wouldn't need to be a high speed crash and they were on there way back from a charity event they did for FREE !!!! a charity that wasn't just a one-off but an ongoing cause that was supported by Paul Walker for a lengthy time.

Wether you know if him or not isn't the issue, a young bloke who gave and did good yet died in such tragic circumstances is a sad thing, its a loss and its a shame more people were not like him, this world would be far better if there were !

Honestly guys, get a grip, your typing behind a keyboard and causing such serious offence yet you don't realise or are so stupid that you don't care.

Also never heard of him I'm afraid but still very sad when something like this happens, particularly sad for those who are left behind :(

Yup, not sure where people are getting their information from and subsequently drawing assumptions. But the aftermath video footage just shows a charred wreck, very hard if not impossible to see if speed was a factor.

Maybe it was, we don't know yet.

    Seemed like a nice guy.
  • I have seen burned cars, I use to work for the emergency services in italy, they look burnt and maybe melted, they don't look wrecked and then burnt... let's not try to be controversial at all costs.
You are saying that this wreck hit the post within the speed limit and then caught fire. Of course the 40 mph impact resulted in sudden death of the occupants, that could not evacuate the vehicle as a result... all is possible I suppose...

Whether he was going to returning from a charity event is neither here nor there in the context of the crash. The 'experienced driver lost control' a 'public' road, the fact that he hit a tree and a lamp post that suggests he wasn't going at a pace that was responsible for the road given the good conditions. Yes, sad for their family that 2 people lost their lives but it seems a totally avoidable accident if the car had been driven in a different manner. As i don't know the man/men I can't/won't pretend to be sad or sorry as it would make no difference whatsoever. Some people for reasons I can't comprehend, do get this 'Diana effect' when someone they don't know dies, sorry if it offends you, I don't.
Personally, I'm glad no people out minding their own business were injured/killed. There's a place for driving fast and public roads aint the place.
Note: The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a statement: "Speed was a factor in the solo vehicle collision."

Looking at the above pic it's safe to say they went quickly.

Hopefully the family's get some comfort from that.

  • V-Tech, this is a cycling forum, a bit of bias towards drivers and fast cars is inevitable. Go on a Cabbie or white van men forum and you'll see a bias against cyclists.
That is not to say that are blind and cannot judge for ourselves if an accident had a significant speed component or not

No. I'm saying that nobody knows for sure what happened, yet.

No. I'm saying that nobody knows for sure what happened, yet.

If you remove that 1% of uncertainty from a discussion, what's the point in discussing?

Why are you being like this? Of course we can discuss it, but to draw conclusions based purely on a few photos?

Look, it's highly likely that speed was a factor having seen a few more photos, but I wouldn't say it's a cert. That's why we have crash scene investigators.

I'm reminded of the calls from the media in the last few weeks to make wearing headphones illegal, enforce mandatory helmet and hi-viz gear. Before even establishing what caused the recent spate of cyclist deaths in London.

Yes, of course... we like to draw conclusions based on even less than that... what's the problem? We're not a Jury in court, are we?

I Would make headphones illegal on the road and I would enforce compulsory helmet... maybe not high visibility gear during day light, but deffo at night... what's the problem with that? I hoep you're not one of those that think helmets are bad and the earth is flat?

because discussions/conclusions are based on balance of probability, be it weather, politics, accidents. The internet would be a dead place if we waited irrefutable evidence of anything before discussing

Your Gran didn't know the Internet, THE place where people with nothing to say do have a say about everything. Someone opened this thread, we might as well have a chat about it. Someone else has already reported this thread, clearly offended by the lack of tears and respectful words that normally flood such threads and it was decided not to close it, as it is not against the rules to speculate about deaths and accidents, respectfully. Clearly the general sentiment is not as symphatetic as in other cases... it is a fact of life and you can't sweep it under the carpet

Sure it's the internet but even here there is a time and a place: your decision to speculate on the cause of this man's death in the context of a RIP thread doesnt reflect well on you. Just so you know. No need for tears of course but no need for speculation or blame based on limited evidence.

Even when such evidence is available, people will still argue against it, that's just human nature, we all have different views on things, that's what makes life, and this place, interesting
