    Classic Mourinho win.

    What, grind it out?

Pundits eh? "You can tell; he really wants the ball..." He what? He really wants the ball? If a player doesn't want the ball, there's something very wrong.

    Yeah.

You kinda feel with Mourinhio he makes his team play really very defensively because defence is much more influenced by how teams line up and the tactics the manager tells them to use.

He likes to make it all about him, and he buys in enough forward quality to be able to snatch a goal or two from what is otherwise a fully defensive mindset.

So he sets his teams up to be very conservative, and revs the balls out of them to fight for every 50-50 ball, cos the way he lines his team up means there will be a lot of them. He’s good at creating that siege mentality (partly by making it about him against the world) to get the guys to hustle and wrestle in that structure.

I mean that goal against spurs was just route one with a small defensive mistake from spurs which was seized upon by enough talent to make it count.

It’s all about him and being defensive is football is always more manager influenced than attaching.

It may sound ridiculous when you hear them say it but it's an indication of confidence amongst a team. When a team is losing repeatedly and under pressure players start to 'hide'. I've often said a player is only as good as their options and I've been in the situation when things aren't going so well, you've been pumped a couple of weeks in row for a few goals and another crap result is in the offing and you find yourself as a centre half in possession with no-one shouting for a pass and not moving too much either. Not much fun when their forwards are hunting you down but when a team is really rattled like that it happens, at all levels of the game.

Is it a coincidence that Arsenal have very good possession stats?

If I was the Burnley chairman I'd be politely telling Everton to F**k Right Off!!

I very much hope Dyche doesn't get/go for the job.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't blame Dyche for wanting to better himself in terms of challenge, prestige and, perhaps above all, financially but it seems to me that sometimes managers just find themselves at a club where everything clicks and they do a really good job year on year. Then the bigger clubs come along, offer them the big bucks and the glamour and the manager jumps ship and then gets the sack after a season or so 'cos they can't repeat their previous successes.

There are loads of examples of this: Owen Coyle at Burnley, Curbishley at Charlton, Burley at Ipswich and more recently Moyes at Everton and many more.

Although when you get a couple of million pay off for failure, it's hardly surprising these guys take the leap!

I quite agree. That's why Eddie Howe is way off an Arsenal Manager for example.

Last I heard, Wenger was hanging around until he wins another Premier League title. Eddie Howe will have retired by then

Which I'm sure will be far more entertaining than the Bus Parkers Derby later in the day.

I imagine it to be a bit like a 1st world war movie with both sides firmly entrenched in their own 18yd boxes, peering pensively across 60yds or so of no man's land into which neither side dare to venture. Except for the occasional speculative missile lobbed over the top hoping to catch the other side off guard! :D:wink:

Certainly more chance of that happening than a football match breaking out

Funny that, the correlation between allegedly boring football and having European trophies. Maybe we're onto something :)

There's definitely a correlation between your one and only ECL trophy and boring football. Good of you to admit it, well done

Chelsea ain't going to win the CL or the PL this season.

    Fancy a wager for charity?

What do you reckon Arsenal will win this seaaon? Even the 'finishing above Tottenham' cup looks like a tricky one :)

Hard to judge against Cheatski. They even managed to make Crystal Palace look like world beaters

I didn't say that. Is a successful season for Chelsea measured on where Arsenal finish? What has Arsenal got to do with Chelsea? So you're not up for the wager for obvious reasons then?

As an aside, we have a shout in the Europa League and the FA Cup.
Whereas, you haven't got a chance in the CL and maybe a shout at the FA Cup.
Since the very fugly one has gone, you haven't got much teeth up front and if you get an injury to Hazard, god help you. Wouldn't that be ironic given his comments regarding Chelsea's league prospects on Saturday?

May consider it if you're prepared to put up the same amount of dosh for an equivalent wager on Arsenal :) Not just one you happen to choose...
