If Martin has no mechanicals and a GC rider beats him then I would find it highly odd on this flat and straightforward course."I feel pretty well," Martin said of his feeling heading into Stage 11, having battled the Tour so far with significant grazing after a crash on Stage 1. "I had a pretty good rest day. The injuries are quite okay now, not too much pain anymore. I recovered well and am really motivated for the time trial tomorrow."
What would you consider to be a time which reeks of doping on this course, FF? (There's a containment thread for this crap, btw)...a rare 100% loyal Pro Race poster. A poster boy for the community.0 -

always highly odd when a climber or allrounder beats a TT specialist...we shall see0 -

Thought it was quite common, at least with the prologues. Skier Herman Maier did the 2003 Prologue. Quite a big unit, I'd imagine he would've been better suited to track

Anyone think it might be too short for Martin? He's not a prologue man.0

Hmm, looks like might be getting your defence in already. He is clearly ok given how he has been riding and if he says he is in good shape and the crash (which happened a long time ago) is not affecting him, I will go with that.Contador is the Greatest0 -

It's hardly a prologue and Martin has won loads of TTs shorter than this. We'll see how he performs, after his crash, but it wont be because of the course.0 -

Never heard of a guest rider on a stage before.
what's his face on the 2003 tour the skier with the humungoid thighs"If I was a 38 year old man, I definitely wouldn't be riding a bright yellow bike with Hello Kitty disc wheels, put it that way. What we're witnessing here is the world's most high profile mid-life crisis" Afx237vi Mon Jul 20, 2009 2:43 pm0 -
Martin has been posting horrific pictures of his back and saying that it's stopped him sleeping. He's clearly recovered to some extent but there is potential for this to impact on his TT position.0

Somewhere here is a tremendous YouTube of him doing weight training whilst bouncing between inflatable balls ala Wipeout. Also he does squat jumps up concrete steps with weights. Awesome.0 -

Sadly never quite the same after his accident in 2001 when they nearly amputated his lower leg. Pretty amazing he got back on skis, let alone won the races he did. A fair few cross-overs from skiing to cycling and I know a number of the British alpine team do a lot of road cycling (and some are rather good at it!) as training."Mummy Mummy, when will I grow up?"

INRNG tweeting a link to a podcast where it is alleged that a "prominant rider" has been chewing tobacco to lose weight before the Tour.
If that's where we're at I can't help but feel optimistic."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Tony about to set off...
And Sky's David Lopez has posted the slowest time at the first check. He is 1'40" behind Boom after just 9.5km.0 -

I believe tobacco's an appetite suppressant... cyclists can't/shouldn't smoke the stuff so chew it.0 -

It's quite simple really (in FFs world); if a SKY rider goes badly either he, or the team, are idiots, if he goes well he's on drugs.0
