Not bad weekend for GB sport on the whole eh?:lol:

I have to say my heart was in my throat watching Murray there. I hate Tennis as well.

Well done him though - great victory.

    Ah spoiler!!!

Ms Cound is going to be in a real rage now, Chris has no chance of emulating Wiggo and winning SPOTY now. All that hard work gone to waste!

You are correct. I'm intrigued to see just how tortured an explanation he can come up with though.

Watched a different race. Happens often around here it seems.

Anyway, that's a bit rubbish for Sky to lose Kiryienka. Wonder if he is ill or it is a form thing. To not even be able to come in with the bus?

Schleck is hard on them, they got rid of Porte, that's not bad for a day's work.

That said, Saxo and Movistar could really have done Froome over today.

Well after the histrionics of the last couple of days on BR it now looks safe to post.

gutsy weekend from Little Pete, I think he justified his Tour selection yesterday and was unlucky today. I do think he would have been toast today in any event as he buried himself yesterday.

Bakelants has been adopted as my rider of the Tour and Belkin as my team. Both have really surprised me with how they have ridden.

Looking forward to the ITV 4 highlights tonight and the review of the week tomorrow.

Taking on Froome is a process, not an event. He'll be nervous now - I didn't understand why he responded to the attacks as quickly as he did. NQ wasn't actually going to get anywhere.

What could Saxo and Movistar done? More attacking? To what end?

It was abundantly clear today that Sky have very few friends in the race.

    This from Little Pete:

“I went down at 40k an hour and that was all I knew. I was just stuck in the ditch. Because I fell to the left I don’t think many people saw me. I was thinking ‘I need to get out of here’ as I could see the cars going past above me one by one. I managed to get myself up and out and checked everything was alright with my bike. We had the second car which got me going again. I was just a bit worried because the race was so on. And I knew I’d been sitting in the hedge for maybe a minute or so. I was just worried about what was going on up front and trying to get myself back in the race. I have a sore shoulder and a bit of road rash but we live to fight another day.”

I love the thought of him sitting down there wondering if anyone noticed he was down there, worrying that the race was going to go on without him. He could have emerged in 50 years as an old bearded man that the locals told myths about. 'There's an old man that lives up the mountain there, he fell down the mountain when the Tour came past and at night if you listen really really carefully you can still here the whir of his chain as he rides to catch the peloton.'

    This is quite true.

To be honest what we saw today was a big step forward in the combating by other teams of Sky's tactics. Yes Movistar could have one-twoed Froome with attacks by Quitana and Valverde but that would have only have profited Saxo or Belkin who were circling like vultures.
It will be interesting to see if a.n.other team has a go at Froome or whether Movistar have been given the job full time by default.

Evans has withdrawn
sorry i meant to come back and say id made a mistake and Evans has had some breakfast.

but i went for a ride instead :(
What Evans said was that he had given up possibility of victory in the Tour, not that he was abandoning the race itself.

After today's stage he now says ‘this could potentially be a very long and interesting Tour.’

It's all very well isolating him, but does anyone realistically believe Valverde or Contador have the strength to make it count? I don't. Froome will muller them both in Wednesday's TT.

I do think he needs to chill out, though. What was he chasing NQ for?

If Movistar want him to waste more nervous energy, they should do it on this stage:

The other teams seemed to waste an opportunity today but I don't see any individual capable of matching Froome, Contador did nothing, Nibali must be kicking himself.

What do you propose the teams did?

Yesterday we found out Sky are not as strong as they were last year, today it was confirmed beyond doubt. We also found out that while Froome is confident and can cope well when he's strong, he still seems tactically weak and I think if he has a bad moment it could be toxic.

Movistar should have had Valverde and Qunitana attacking Froome up every climb, one after the other. Trouble was that Valverde (and Contador too) knew that actually that meant giving the win to Quintana which was not acceptable. So they butchered it. Better to let Sky take the win than a Columbian maybe?

I need to throw the question right back atcha though and ask what you think Froome did wrong today?

    He was tactically brilliant.

He followed Valverde and Quintana, and nobody else. He let Rui Costa go, he let Dan Martin go. The only time he rode was to counter, imo, his two strongest rivals.

Today showed that Movistar have no interest in working with Contador.

I agree with most of this although I think he could have let Quintana go, he wasn't going to take much time by that stage and Contador plus the Dutch boys would have lost more. That said Quintana's 'attacks' were really quite half hearted digs compared to his proper attack yesterday. To me it looks like everyone was happy to just move up a place with Porte losing so much time, they didn't look like people who are prepared to risk it all for the win.
