Cunego taking the jersey might be a nice idea as it could give him a spark to perform on a level he reached some years ago.
Lol. Nice to see someone still has hope.

What's the longest anyone's gone between yellow jerseys?

Gino Bartali won the Tour in 1938 and 1948?

Millar could be 2000-2013 between holding the jersey.

I love TTTs. Way more interesting than ITTs.

Who's on fifth, riders being shed, space helmets, huge roll out ramp, pedalling in unison, what's not to like?

Am I supposed to work or something until the cycling comes on?

Riders with strong teams get an even greater advantage than normal.

    Define 'work'

If its doing a few emails, and dialling into some group telecons...yes

    Anything more demanding...no

Or...things can go horribly wrong e.g. BMC at last year's Giro, with unexpected CX action by Phinney. Or Garmin at the Vuelta, with 3 riders down at a roundabout

Didnt Astana do one in the last couple of years where they all came off round a bend?

    That sounds like actual work.

I'm going to strain myself listening to a podcast or two.

    See also Lampre:

Lotto also managed to have their 8th man wipe out while riding in a straight line, almost taking the 9th man down with him.

Basically the 2009 tour seemed to be amateur hour for the TTT

JV was bigging up how well Garmin's TTT training had gone on twitter just before the tour. Would like to see Millar in yellow.

Here's the video of Lotto crashing while riding in a straight line (think he touches the wheel of the guy in front)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RV2klfACJJs

Menchov (surprise surprise) also crashed during that TTT - looks like it was on the same corner as the Lampre crash in the video above. Can't seem to find a video of that, mainly because google and youtube return so many different videos for "Menchov Crash" even if you narrow it down to time trials and 2009 you end up with loads of videos of his crash in the Giro TT that year!

I'm not as high on Garmin as most people for this one.

5 of this same 9 were there for the Giro TTT, and they were very ordinary.
    Talansky, Martin, Dennis, Bauer
    vs
    Stetina, Dekker, Hunter, Haas

Stronger for sure, but I'd argue all the other teams are improved too. They could definitely win, but I don't know that I'd have them as favourite.

*It's possible that I'm forgetting some particular problem that Garmin had during that TTT.

I think OGE will do well today. Not sure if they'll win, but they've a good chance.

The Giro TTT was more technical and a bit more rolling. This TTT seems almost pan flat and a lot of it is on straight roads. Not entirely comparable.

Ha ha. And we know from the Giro just what a great guide to form JV's tweets are

It was, but I'm not sure technical & rolling should suit them any less.

I think we're seeing the names Millar, VDV, Danielson and imagining them at their best, not as the 2013 riders (clearly Millar IS in great form). To be fair though, Navardauskas, Talanksy, Ryder, Dennis, Bauer, Millar is a strong top 6. I still think they're going to have to go some to be up there with Movistar.

Also, I wonder if they'll hang around for Dan Martin if he starts to struggle.

I'm looking forward to seeing Chirs Froome shoot off the front with 2 k to go, just "to keep out of trouble" and keep the rest of his team "on their toes".

I'm with you on this. I think they'll be there or thereabouts but they're certainly not the overwhelming favourites some would have them. And not only Dan Martin, they have at least three possible team leaders. Are they going to be ruthless or will they try and get them all around?

Here is the TT ranking of the teams as calculated by ProCyclingStats:

    Teams Sum Time Trial Points
    Omega Pharma - Quick-Step 3099
    Sky Procycling 1563
    BMC Racing Team 1150
    Garmin - Sharp 955
    Orica GreenEDGE 748
    Movistar Team 736
    Astana Pro Team 644
    Vacansoleil - DCM 641
    Cannondale Pro Cycling Team 451
    Team Saxo-Tinkoff 449
    Katusha Team 389
    Belkin Pro Cycling Team 342
    Lampre - Merida 335
    RadioShack - Leopard 241
    Equipe Cycliste FDJ.fr 222
    Cofidis Solutions Crédits 166
    AG2R La Mondiale 109
    Team Argos - Shimano 82
    Lotto Belisol Team 34
    Euskaltel - Euskadi 27
    Sojasun 24

With everyone fit, OPQS would be a shoe-in but with Tony Martin injured, not so much. I have a sneaky feeling we might see Cadel in yellow.

Here's the link to the page I copied this from. There are some quite nice stats there:

Cadel bores me. As a person and as a rider. I don't want to see him in yellow.

We had one of those in the Giro just past and we don't want another one in the Tour thanks !

^rather him than Bert or Piti, but otherwise, yeah
