That's got to be the most oxymoronic sentence I've ever heard0 -
Time to replace the knackered On-One Thinny's with something nice and shiny...and 50g lighter

Lemme know how those work out, I've heard good and bad, good being with the Ti axles they're 260-ish grams, and looks nice, bad being that apparently if you smack them around a bit (which let's be honest, happens despite the best of our abilities) they're made of cheese0
-
Didn't got for the Ti axles - I'm well under the 90kg weight limit but I'm riding some brutal stuff so thought I'd go for strength (and £100 on a set of pedals is too much for me anyway!)
But will report back with how I get on with 'em"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Seems fair, it's nae the axles are the issue, if anything the axle strength is stronger with Ti, though the force required to sheer is less than CroMo, still highly unlikely with pedals though.
Generally what I've heard is the bodies of the Superstar mag ones are rubbish, but who am I to say, look nice and ain't too much money for light, nice shaped grippy pedals.
Don't forget to give us a review after a wee while0 -
I also had a pair for a few months and they were fine.0

Loving the bike! That frame for under £700 is a steal
Looking through these threads is making me less patient for my Covert..
May seem stupid but.. What make is that lime green helmet? Love the colour and design and mine helmet now has a large crack in it0 -
I agree! An absolute steal for the price. I'm loving it.
Helmet is a 2013 Giro Feature - £40 from UK Bike Store. Went for the larriest colour they had"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

I have one of those too. I looked at the bright kelly green one, but ordered matt black, lol.0
-
Matt black sounds good too - for those extra stealthy days. If they're still £40 I could be persuaded to buy another one..."Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

£40?! makes £110 for a Troy Lee A1 look stupid!
I'll have to get myself one of those0 -
There's some on there but only the matte and red...
Either way I'll get one of those or the 661 recon0 -

I got mine from Koo Bikes for just under £39.0 -

Obviously all very personal but I tried on a Recon and it hurt my head it was so uncomfy - the Feature on the other fits perfectly and feels great."Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Bike looks great! Never seen one before, it almost looks like a FS version of an Evil Soverign.
Can you get some sort of crud guard for the rear shock? looks very exposed down there! You might be able to put a Mucky Nutz on the seatstay?0 -
exposed to what? just dirt? It's very dry here - saying that yesterdays ride was 'damp' but that's about as bad as it gets. Or do you think the shock is vulnerable to rock strikes in the location?"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Aye just general dirt/muck/rocks etc... shock position is similar to the Cube Fritzz which you can get a small shock guard for to stop anything being flicked round by the rear wheel. Probably makes bugger all difference but it might stop something lol
0 -
yeah that does look really exposed, I think cos mines hiding behind the bashguard it seems more protected but it's actually the same as that Cube - in direct line of fire from the back wheel. Hmmm...might indeed be worth getting something to fend off the worst of it."Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

I know it's been a while, but I am looking for a new bike. I spotted this bike for sale on Amazon (from Bikester) and they sell it with a pretty good build for about $3000. I am glad to see a normal person saying it is a great frame since I can find so little about it.
Here is their build: http://www.votec.com/assets/download/VE160.pdf
Sadly they are equipped with fox, but considering the rest of the build, I think it is worth it.
The 2014 comes with the shock guard built in by the way. I am glad they covered that base.0 -
I bet you're just getting this thing out of hibernation again right?0

Ha! How did you guess?
Yeah - been back on her for the last couple of weeks - most of the trails have cleared of snow now and I'm absolutely loving it!
The RT3 has settled down nicely. Managed to crack the master cylinder on the rear MT2/4 so have put the SLX's on from the 'hopper - which I much prefer anyway. Thinking about putting a 60mm stem on as she does wander a bit on the climbs but you get so much traction on the rear with these new fangled full-suss bikes that I'm smiling on the loose, rocky climbs nearly as much as I am on the descents
The Nukeproof Snap is up for sale - if it goes it'll be providing funds for a Lyrik RC2DH - nowt wrong with the Domain 318 really but would be nice to shed some weight and I'm sure the Lyrik is a different beasty all together.
Got some big trips planned this summer including another bash at the Mega (on a proper enduro bike this time!) so will keep ya'll posted

1/ yeah if I win the lottery! (which I don't do) You can get a new (unused) Lyrik RC2DH for £400ish
2/ I'm liking the angles right now with the 180mm Domain so I figure a 170mm Lyrik with an external bottom cup headset and it should be about the same as I have now"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

So...
First batch of upgrades/changes is in motion
The Haven felt too narrow on this bike (although it feels spot on on the 'hopper) so in comes a Carbon Cycles eXotic Full Carbon Riser Handlebar - half the price of the Renthal carbon bar and good whack lighter too. Doesn't look as bad as I thought it would either. Although I do wish the logo was a proper red though rather than the orangey-red that they've used...
Next up a slightly longer stem - felt slightly cramped with the 50mm and the front wheel is prone to wander a little on the climbs so going for a 10mm bump - whether I notice this or not we'll see...
And also have had to replace the the Bonty XR4's - great tyre grip and weight wise but paper thin sidewalls just don't cut it (no pun intended) 'round here! So back to the German Black Chili's to go with the German black frame - Conti Trail King Protection 2.4 upfront 2.2 out back (which I'm already regretting!)
And next week I should be receiving the pièce de résistance which will shed 0.5kg and transform the bike into a proper Mega-Slayer..."Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

New forks?!
What length are those bars?
I was thinking about some Renthal or Easton carbons0 -
ej2320 wrote:New forks?!
I'm hoping that's gonna be possible after the summer - still haven't decided Pike or Lyrik, seem to change my mind every week!ej2320 wrote:What length are those bars?

They're 750mm - have them on the bike now and loving them. Good width, nice position, seem to be cornering faster but that could be in my head.
A mates just got the Renthals and no doubt they look sweet but they sure are pricey (compared to the CC ones). The Easton Carbon Haven is a better price and the same weight as the CC but only 711mm. The Havoc is 750mm but 50g heavier and £50 more expensive than the Carbon Cycles - was a no brainer for me

I'd be terrified of those bars. That wide and that light, and that cheap? No ta. Somethings gotta give there and I'm guessing it won't be long before they're broken on a bike like that.0

What's wrong with the 2.2 rear trail king?0
