Might as well get this started, stage 203Kms from Cosenza to Matera, rides have set off (approx 35 minutes ago) & the finish weather is meant to be cloudy at around 21C but with a high percentage chance of rain.

As you might expect this is a breakaway of 6 riders Marangoni, Mestre, Bulgac, Gil, Pirazzi et Andriato with a 3 minute gap.

Edit gap has been allowed to go away and is at 8'10s
Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.

Amazing that Sky are still the only team in the peloton using powermeters.

Anyway... think today is a day to just watch the last 15 minutes of the stage.

Urtasun, the Euskatel rider who had the bad crash on stage 1 and has been struggling as lanterne rouge since, has dropped out after 36 km.

You might, for example, want to take a gander at the pics of "king of the Race Face" Danilo Di Luca that Mr. Fighter put up on yesterday's spoiler thread.

Not sure but have a feeling that the last 15km's might be where someone goes for it over the penultimate climb, know its only just over 300M but the profile map makes it look a lot less steep then its a downhill and back up for for the finish at 396M.

Here's a short vid of pozzovivo doing his tour guide of Matera - its bidding to be capital of culture 2019- looks pretty.

    Rain. Absolutely p!ssing down.

Finish line is actually underwater at the moment, water washing down the road.

Just reading that consensus is on a bunch finish as similar finish used in Giro in 2004 with an attack up Montescaglioso (the penultimate climb) only to be brought back for the final up hill section.

"Montescaglioso is only a category 4 climb but its 4.5 km with an average gradient of 5,6% - and parts of 10% - will thin out the peloton before the final. The final climb isn’t very steep and strong sprinters with a bit of climbing legs like Degenkolb, Ventoso and Goss should put their teams in front and try to drop some of the pure sprinters. The climb ends with 4.8 km to go and from here on it’s straight out with a bit of descending before the last kilometer kicks up with 2.8% all the way to the line."

Typical Giro route planning... they've put the finish line in the middle of a river.

Blimey, expect race neutralisation and a protest if that continues.

Just watching the ES coverage (as delay in getting live cycling due to poor weather for those that are wondering) and looking at the TV guys trying to make sure all their gear does not get washed away!

They've announce a coverage delay – not sure if that is because of TV and race timing equipment being removed or the actual racing being delayed.

At one point it looked like the TV guys were more concerned with the TV guys getting washed away

Racing still ongoing 99.5km to go and gap is 7'52", understand that TV coverage is delayed only

    Wat lekker weer!

    Nice out isn't it.

As an aside, does anyone else find Quigley a bit annoying. His insistence on converting kms to miles is one thing that is grating with me. It may be that I'm not used to him and he just needs to bed in.

Can't see we are going to get much change out of today's coverage.

Yeah the one guy under the umbrella protecting his camera was not too happy with the guys next to him pushing their tent roof up to get rid of the water. No expert on my Italian hand signals but think it was not 'thanks' being gesticulated!

Looks like the racing is still happening though. Blue skies 93.8kms from the finish actually.

The peloton may wish to soft pedal for a little while though...

Don't worry understand that Sky's marginal gains training covers this, if the rain continues - http://ow.ly/i/247et

He's not going down too well with some of the pros watching, either....
