Here's my Bizango. Bought frame only. Due to external bottom part of headset (using to run tapered forks) adding fork length/slackening head angle I am running 100mm forks. Built as a light singlespeed. First ride was today - very happy :-)

Looks gorgeous mate, love the white forks! How's the single speed? Love the idea of the simplicity for riding to school and stuff, but I wouldn't have it as a main bike, I'd get a cheap frame and rigids, was it easy to set up?Framebuilder

Well, here is my Bantu, bought second hand for £180. Went 9 speed with Deore Shifters, Deore Chainset, LX Front Mech and XT Rear. Just upgraded to M615 Deore brakes and SLX Discs. Charge Spoon saddle and a pair of Conti Mountain Kings (basic ones).
Currently waiting on a 70mm stem, some black grips (did have some horrible white ones) and a hope QR seat clamp (the current one is useless!)
Tempted by a fork upgrade...0 -
Made some good upgrades mate, Raidon forks are decent but pretty heavy, merlin hve some decent deals and there's definitely deals around to be had if you look hard enough for it.Framebuilder

Hoodoo 2014 model, apparently not as good as the previous so I’ve read but ignorance is bliss as I wouldn’t know.
Really love the bike though, it’s so comfortable, easily do a 50 miler on this bike and you’ll not even know it the next day.
I’m no expert when it comes to MTB’s but what I do know is, to me, this bike has been worth the value, it may only be a ‘cheapy’ from Halfords but ideal to get you started …and hooked on mountain biking, it really does the job.
I’m not lucky enough to live in an area to get the most out of a MTB and really test it out (unfortunately we don’t have any hills/mountains or tough terrain here in East Yorkshire lol) but used in the sand quarry and on the forest trails when we bung them in the car.
Sorry pics were done in black and white, bike has not been modified in any way, I wouldn’t know where to start to be honest, however I’m open to suggestions if there is any experts that could advise on a few things to make the bike better (performance wise that is) I wouldn’t want to tamper with anything or replace things just for the sake of making it ‘look better’ unless it was really going to benefit me or the bike.

I'll be joining this thread soon, cycle to work opens Monday at my work, and a Voodoo Bizango 29'er is being ordered. I'm soooo exciiiteeeed!
I have a couple of questions though.
1) those mini mud guards (Face fenders), are they worth the cost? I was thinking of getting crud catchers, but I've not seen many photos in this thread with them on, but have seen loads with the face fenders.
2) Pedals. I hear the pedals are crap, is this true and should I order some replacements when I order the bike (i.e. using my c2w voucher) or can it wait a while?0 -

Hello, and welcome to the clan
1) Yes, they keep a fair bit of crap out of your face, but slightly less effective on a 29er (I've got a Bizango as well) but noticeably better than without them
2) Maybe, they're okay, but it was one of the first things I changed - I went for DMR v8's but the obvious suggestions would be those or Superstar Nano's.
Enjoy your new bike!Framebuilder

The X3's come in 100mm or 120mm of travel. On the Bantu 120mm should have been fitted, if they weren't then you had the wrong forks on your bike and should have got Halfords to swap them to the correct 120mm ones
Hi All,
I'm a new member on here - from sunny Kenya! I'm looking to get back into mountain biking and have been doing copious amounts of research before I order my bike (currently a toss up between the hoodoo 2014 and the rockrider 8.1 2014).
Now, in regards to the issue of the fork travel of the x3 Raidon fork, in my wide research I have noticed that there are 2 different frame structures for the newer hoodoo. If you look at different photos on the interwebs you will notice that there are some hoodoos that have a frame in which the top tube and the down tube are welded together at the joint where they meet the head tube. Then there are others in which the top tube and down tube do not meet as they join the head tube....I hope everyone is with me so far.
Could it be that the hoodoos in which the top and down tubes are joined at the head tube have the 120mm fork and the ones where the tubes are separate have the 100mm x3 fork? Because the head tubes look of a different size between the two designs hence, I would presume, the different forks? Or do all hoodoos come with the 120mm fork??
And is it really fair to say that the 2014 hoodoo is inferior to the earlier hoodoo when the new hoodoo has tektro Gemini brakes and the raidon x3 coil fork? To many those features would be an upgrade! its just the lack of a remote lock out switch on the 2014 model that probably tips the scale in favour of the older hoodoo.
Also, the brand decals/livery are confusing.... I've seen many hoodoos with the x3 raidon forks (which suggests the new hoodoo) but featuring the decals of the older hoodoo!!
Can anyone here with experience in these bikes clear the above mess up for me?
Finally, besides price - is there anything Inferior on the RR 8.1 2014 against the hoodoo?
Many thanks

So the guys at Halfords wouldn't knowingly (or mistakingly for that matter) fit a 100mm x3 raidon fork on a hoodoo would they? That's my main worry and hence why I've posted here especially o this thread after finding out that the x3 comes in two sizes and that there may be bikes with the wrong fork sizes out there!
I'm planning to import the bike from the UK to Kenya and I do not want to find wrong bits when I open the box.... from what I've read the Halfords are quite haphazard in this respect!0 -
Hopefully they wouldn't knowingly - but they might misyakenly. The issues with wrong forks seemed to only affect the Bantus - have heard no reports of similar issues on the hoodoos.Framebuilder

My hoodoo
Untitled photo by antm81, on Flickr
A few changes since this photo, the saddle has been changed for a charge spoon, fitted a 70mm raceface stem off my old bike along with crank bros iodine 1 bars, got rid of the reflectors off the wheels and fitted my lizard skins grips.
I plan on changing the pedals soon, possibly to a set of the new superstar plastic ones, then maybe upgrade the shifters as I've got a Deore set or even an XT set in the shed, plus I've got a few other parts lying around which may make their way on to the bike at some point.0 -
My hoodoo,
Was upgraded, then stripped and the frame mothballed in the loft before being resurrected as a ridged for filthy trails.

So finally an up to date pic.
So far Changed the seat clamp to a superstar QR one for when I put the bike in the car (need to lower the seat post), charge spoon saddle fitted, race face 70mm stem, crank bros iodine 700mm bars, lizard skins grips, Maxxis advantage front tyre and stolen thermalite pedals (seem decent enough, especially for under £10.
Possible future changes include a set of Shimano brakes off my trance when they get upgraded, then may go single ring on the front.0 -
HI, Here's a sneak peek of my new Bantu under construction.
It's actually finished and has been ridden for the last week. I'll post some more photos soon.
The frame was bought as a cheap emergency replacement.
However, I have to say I'm blown away by how it rides.
I've ridden/owned frames that cost 10 times what I paid for this beauty and it's right up there !!
Loving it.0 -
Love the old school voodoos, look forward to more pics!Framebuilder

Here are a couple more shots of the finished Bantu.
As I mentioned in my earlier post I bought the frame recently from eBay. It's brand new (£40 !!!).
I was initially just looking for a quick fix replacement frame for a bike build for over the winter.
I recalled seeing rave reviews of Voodoo bikes in the MTB press over recent years, and I've owned frames designed by Joe Murray before ('89 Kona Explosif).
So, I thought I'd take a punt on it.
BUT, after approx 80 miles on it this week I absolutely love it.
The build quality and finish is very good and it rides great. In fact as good as if not better than lot of much more expensive frames I've ridden.
I have a number of MTBs and I can see this one fast becoming a fave.
Anyone who wants a great frame for not much cash should consider this.
Forget the "It's from Halfords / Bikehut isn't it" bike snobbery.........0 -
