Sporza just replaying Boonen post-crash. Doesn't look good. His back and hips.

Don't remember the Flandrian countryside looking quite so flat and lushly green as this, and those new helmets seem very round.... The addition of giants with large sticks prodding the riders about is novel and could prove interesting though. The guy with the white helmet might not agree, he seems to be taking the worst of it.

Omega Pharma – Quick-Step Cycling Team rider Tom Boonen had an unfortunate crash at 19km that forced him to abandon Ronde van Vlaanderen on Sunday. He was transported to the hospital of Roeselare according to OPQS Press Officer Alessandro Tegner (@aletegner).

Boonen has a contusion at his left hip, as well as a wound on his left elbow. He also has a contusion and a wound on his right knee that required a few stitches, according to Tegner. Boonen is now undergoing X-rays to exclude any fractures.

More information will be released as it becomes available during the day.

Is contusion a fancy word for cut? AtC?

Boonen's victory to a slow, womens voice song, may you stay for ever young... (a la Emily Sande, but it's not). Lots of slow motion shots of that kid in the field...

We're going to run out of cheese at this rate before the racing really starts.

Just enjoy the excited Flemish shouting of 'Tom Boonen, Tom Boonen wins Ronde van Vlaanderen' and the de rigeur shot of Platoon boy in the cornfield.

Only if it's in super slo-mo. This sport needs some shots of its fans, slumped in corpulent heaps surrounded by takeaway containers and squandered special brew tinnies.

Sorry :( It might be worth investing in a VPN. Then you can set your IP address to a host of countries and watch stuff (not just cycling, but it is great for cycling). Right now I'm in Hampshire but Sporza thinks I'm in Brussels.

    I got a deal that costs $76 a year.
