And they're off.

Cold and wet, with some snow along the route

I reckon the winners coming from this lot

Snow on autostrada bypassing Turchino. Rumours that race will bypass it too. Not keeping two chevrons apart auto-anarchy.

Talk the race will be neutralised for the Turchino pass as it's snowing hard. Still time for it to warm up but that looks unlikely

    the Inner Ring @inrng
If the snow keeps up they'll have to load bikes on to team cars and drive over the pass, descend to Genoa and restart the race #msr

F*cking weather. Has been making my commute ride sh!tty enough as it is without screwing with the monuments up too.

If the race is neutralised for a section of the course what happens to the break?

Do they get a head start at the restart?

Riders will be driven over the pass in team bus, gaps will be maintained.

Can't they just drive them to a point say 50 km before the Poggio and save us all a few hours? Right I'm off out for my first proper ride in weeks, aiming to get back for live coverage.

    Ta.

As a supplementary question how are time gaps measured on the road?

Iain you must love this race, you are always the one to start the spoiler!

ademort, you are always first to the news of stolen bikes

Weather is unreal all over the World, bloody global warming as a result of materialistic society.

No matter for this race though, may as well put them on rollers for 5hrs then drop them off a few km from the base of the only difficult part of the race.

Cannondale will need to call in a few favours to close ~10mins in remaining 140km.

No one in the break from Sky, Quick Step or Radio Shack, think they should be able to get some help

less than 20 miles now till the bus stop

Gaps dropping quick sticks, now just over 8 mins.

No need to rush lads, there'll be another one along in a minute :D

298-46 = 252km, so pretty much Paris-Tours in crappy conditions. (well, until they get down towards the coast)

Apparently, the Sky bus had taken a flying start to the finish, while the rest waited.
Rushing back to the pick up point.
Hope they make it, or else the Sky riders may need to thumb a lift!

  • So this is turning into a kind of rally/cycling biathlon event. The Sky twitter has some impressive photos of the mess – bus waiting in readiness.

Heavy, cold rain falling in San Remo at the moment. Descending the Poggio will be interesting - "who dares wins" stuff.

Yes, my late night drunken PTP pick looking better now.

Of course, all the wannabe attackers will have fresher legs too.
