Got to say. Pretty interesting watching the chaos in the last 4kms.

Really good that from Cav. Followed EBH after both their trains got swamped 1k out.
  • Thanks Eddy, says Cav

His ability to hide until exactly the right time is awesome
  • Looks like OPQS did a wonderful job once again and Cavendish takes a win. Keep it up boys.
    Contador is the Greatest
  • Which teams didn't try and have a train then? :D

  • Matt about to speak to Cav. Thank gawd he won :)

Looks like you didn't watch the race again.
  • Hardly saw sight or sound of OPQS to be honest. It was Katusha and Sky, then BMC and Sky, then BMC and OGE, then everyone with anyone who can vaguely sprint. Then everyman for himself.

From the overhead shot 5 sprinters waited for the EBH mullet to pass then fought like dogs to get the wheel. Time for a haircut.

  • No MSR for Cav then..
  • 'San Remo isnt really one I can win anymore'

That's what Daniel Friebe said he told him. Friebe also said 'Dont believe a word of it' :)

Interesting post race interview, Cav say's:

He not focussing on GC in Qatar
He's not focussed on San Remo, say's he can't win it anymore
Say's he lighter than he has previously been at this stage in the season.

I only actually believe the last statement, rest sounds like managing expectations.

  • So Cav is not going for M-SR. Is that him admitting defeat to the hills or him spreading some misinformation?

as per my last post...for me, its the latter...Cav's a master at that kinda thing...

I'd say an alternative is that it's been decided that Tommeke is going for MSR, which was decided since last July and Cav has had to live with that...

Yeah, I'm going with misinformation. Am I right in remembering he purposefully rode a bit rubbish at T-A before the 2009 M-SR to put people off the scent? Can't quite remember if I made that up or if it's true.

I think he may well have been told that Boonen is their guy, but they'd be crazy not to at least take Cav along. Even if they promise him no support at all until the Cipressa and Poggio.

I don't think he can win it anymore, but I can't see him not trying.

Well its given us something else to talk about, besides the lack of wind.

And seeing as Cav won we can't dissect why he lost and if he's finished as a sprinter.

Well, he was lucky to win it in the first place! :D

Rick doesn't see Boonen winning MSR, especially not with dodgy start to the season.

Cav can still win it, he just needs to arrive in super shape (he certainly looks lean) and for the race to go a certain way. Let's not forget that 2012 was unusual, it does normally finish in some sort of sprint.

You got it. Cunning little bugger :) He said that he knew he'd done a good job when on the morning of MSR, Gazzetta rated his chances of winning as 1 star

    Proper superstar.

Thought Rendell's brief part-explanation (at about 10km to go) of what makes Cav such a dominant sprint force was a nice touch - especially as he was commentating from the back of a motorbike. I know we've mostly heard it all before about Cav's "jump" etc, but he did a good job of expressing it in a fresh way (to my ears, anyway) - and then Cav went and pretty much demonstrated exactly what Rendell had been talking about...
