Which then lets itself down by having its riders race UK chippers...
Oi, the race Dani King rode last Sunday wasn't a chipper.
But that's a mens race, and I don't have much of a problem with that as it's fair racing, indeed it's what the women pro's should be doing if they're wanting for competition (indeed it's what a lot of the non-pro women do too) but entering much lower standard womens races (and pretty much all womens racing is E/1/2/3/4 remember due to lack of numbers but races still attract different quality fields) is just crap.
I don't get why people would be "inspired" to ride in a same race as a pro - what exactly do you get out of being dropped in the first accelleration? Races are categorised to get "fair" racing.Jibbering Sports Stuff: http://jibbering.com/sports/0 -
I think it's not just about measuring/comparing performance output, but also a bit of athlete and business PR. Rochelle Gilmore's team sponsors get further exposure among people who are likely to use Wiggle to buy kit and makes her team's brand more widely known.
It's also putting something in to amateur racing in that there's a sort of cross-over between pro and amateur that doesn't happen in the men's side, encouraging the star-struck to dip their toes in grassroots cycling and maybe get hooked. More experienced riders can measure themselves in a race situation. The big effort at the moment is to get more novice riders in at grassroots level; the cream will rise from that and Gilmore's girls entering occasional local races do their bit to help generate interest.what exactly do you get out of being dropped in the first accelleration?0 -

So Pro Men should race cat 3/4 men to provide the same motivation?Jibbering Sports Stuff: http://jibbering.com/sports/0 -
I felt a bad for Lucy Garner the other night when Wiggle-Honda brought a lot of their girls for the London Nocturne and got the headlines on home turf. Being a big talent and 2012 circuit champion (I presume) that sort of thing suits her, but without a team it would have been hard!
Looking forward to the British Road Nationals in Glasgow at the end of June. I know you officially don't race as a team, but again Garner might be at a disadvantage if no other Argos-Shimano riders are there. Also, the TT should be interesting. Perhaps Elinor Barker will run, she is junior road TT world champion, so will be interesting to see how she fares now in the seniors.0 -

frankly it looked hard even with a team to keep up with the Wigglettes at the pace they set, and they just had the numbers to back them up and keep it going. Even the TourSeries teams were heavily outnumbered in most cases, so how the singletons coped with that I dont know, makes you wonder if they shouldnt introduce something like a max 5 rider team limit for the futureEd-tron wrote:Looking forward to the British Road Nationals in Glasgow at the end of June. never fussed Nicole ok I know having "teams" have helped win it the last few years, but we might see different tactics a Wiggle vs a Dolmans Boels could be a much more even match than weve seen previously.0 -
Bit of an interesting one about the women's Nocturne result. As Hutchinson said on twitter, took a long time to announce what should've been announced on the night... http://www.londonnocturne.com/latestnews.php"Mummy Mummy, when will I grow up?"

Interesting. Sounds to me that they just wanted a Trott to win as she is a public figure. Nice win by Barnes.Contador is the Greatest0

Yea, info also here http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/lat ... field.html :S
Yes Awavey (above) Wiggle v Doelmans Boels will be interesting. 5 v 3 riders. Will keep an eye out for that tussle. Its good for womens cycling to have a battle like that. Cant see Garner's name on the start list0 -

Is she riding the U23?0 -

Agreed. Disqualified for celebrating her win? Shocking decision. That lapped riders reason is ridiculous, there are rules in place for crits to remove lapped riders before the final few laps precisely to prevent them being a factor in the result.0 -

Hate having to agree with Andyp but yes, that sucks.0 -

Oops, my mistake. Yep she's in the list, and * as under 230 -

Hannah Barnes had a pretty nasty crash at the Woking tour series race before getting back up and winning it, she is pretty tough. http://www.tourseries.co.uk/news/4725.php#.UbnBT4HRcSU0 -

that was a horrible face plant she did really well to get up from that. Much respect but i didnt understand how she could then take a lap out to sort herself out and then be allowed to contest the win? (I know its a crit and i know a lap out for mechanicals and all that but....)
even more amazing was watching her contending the sprints and then winning. very impressive.0 -

There's a photo of the finish that Hutch tweeted showing that there is a big gap between the winners and the riders 'about to be lapped'. A gap big enough and 'safe' enough to have a motorbike camera in.0 -
They should appeal that - i'm sure Laura Trott doesn't want to be credited with it - does look like a stitch up.
it's a hard life if you don't weaken.0 -

Did she take a lap out? Thought she was out the front, crashed, got up as the pack caught her, jumped back in the pack then went on to win."Mummy Mummy, when will I grow up?"

Were you there then? or you mean on the highlights.
I think you are allowed lap out for a crash too, maybe to patch yourself up. The photos of the crash are good, she looks like she is smiling in one of them!0 -

No took a lap out and got back on. To be fair im not up on crit rules. Mostly when ive watched them ive embraced the errr "social" aspects.0 -
Allowed a lap out for a mechanical or a crash. I assume that this is because otherwise you would end up lapped by time things got sorted out.0

Don't know if it's been posted on here already but WomensCycleRacingUK on You Tube has some good stuff about the domestic scene. I've just been made aware of it as there's a nice piece on my club's women's team on there.0

@MarkCavendish
Reading about @bannahharnes getting demoted to 2nd in that #IGNocturne race. Is it true it was for celebrating the win?! Disgraceful if so.
“The photo finish shows that I won,” she told BBC Sport.
“But there’s some kind of regulation that you can’t take both arms off handlebars to win, which is crazy because every single cyclist does that when they win a race. I don’t think it’s over."Contador is the Greatest0 -

Here is an interview with Liz Hatch from last year.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88ASUd2n59M
It starts off a little weird but hang in there, it is actually quite funny. Towards the end of the interview, she talks about racing again in Europe for the 2013 season. Does anybody know if she is racing this year? I'm just, you know, mildly interested.

DD.
Yes she is racing but fairly low key it seems. She's based in Belgium. In the future I see her as an advocate for women's cycle sport - maybe a role in the UCI.BASI Nordic Ski Instructor
