Did you all come to the conclusion that Bernie Eisel is a gay icon then? :?0

Anyone mention Bernie?
And Squirrel, Bernie and Tom are BOTH gay icons. Unpalatable as this might be, I have to speak the truth.0 -

I'm only just coming to terms with the fact that women are interested in this sport - surely you aren't suggesting that gay men are too??!! :shock:0 -
I'm getting the feeling that this is the dark dark secret of pro cycling
Shall we just agree to not mention any of this ever again?0 -

I'm cool!...............but you've missed out Fabulous Fabian Cancellara and there are a few crushes going on for other riders on this form.
And yes, cycling has to be the campest of sports. Ok, not the campest I guess figure skating is probably tops, and rugby for that matter. But hey, you can't beat cycling for out and out fetishism0 -

Fit young men in lycra?0 -

You should start a thread with that title in Bottom Bracket. I can't speak for gay men but in my experience lycra on a man just makes women laugh I doubt that this is anything to do with me being neither young nor fit and assume it is a universal response0 -

Who needs a thread in Bottom Bracket when we have Frenchie's photos and analysis readily available here in Pro Race?0 -
Has this thread descended into misogyny yet?
At least birnie isn't around....
It's difficult to look at this. All I can say is I'm someone who has been called a feminist by my office and girlfriend. I'd watch women's racing if it was on, but I wouldn't rush home and go out of my way to see it like I do the men's.
Would that change with more exposure? Possibly.
I got up to watch the women's Aussie open final as well as the men's, but I was always more excited about the men's.0 -
I'm from SW London
OF COURSE I must be famous0 -
Ah! I remember now why entered this thread!
Please could we have a Women's Pro Racing sticky on the front page of Pro Race? Rather than perhaps annexing the subject somewhere where it might be forgotten, it would be good to have it always visible and ready for comment.
BTW I am not saying that all comments are restricted to the sticky i.e. if there is big news then it would deserve it's own thread.
A small contribution to raising the profile of Women's Racing?0 -

Start a thread and see how it does first. Dont want the front page to be too cluttered.0 -

Fully understand too many stickies get in the way. But I couldn't start a new thread called Women's Pro Racing as we already have this one. Which would quite rightly get a 'why have you started a new thread?' insert link to 'Women's Cycling'.
Perhaps I should wait for this thread to fade away first.0 -

Several years ago here (can't recall if it was as C+ or BikeRadar) Peter Cossins set up a "womens racing" section of the forum - same prominence as the "ProRace", "Amateur race" sections have now. It died on its arse from lack of interest from both genders.'This week I 'ave been mostly been climbing like Basso - Shirley Basso.'0 -
Example. Here is a thread on the biggest women's race. Look how many replies it got:
viewtopic.php?f=40002&t=12714233
That being said, I bet 9 out of 10 of people enjoyed the women's RR more than the men's.
This one got some traction although was upset somewhat by the usual idiots:

This one got some:

I think the majority of men respect the women's racing and don't look down on it because they are women. At the end of the day, I think it is as simple as being able to see the race live. Just look at San Luis vs AusRace - one got far more traction, mainly because San Luis didn't have proper visuals (it is a better race with better riders). It goes for most races and is why so many people were all over the women's Olympic RR.Contador is the Greatest0 -

Sounds pretty obvious, but I would rather watch an exciting women's race than a dull men's. OK, you don't know how it's going to turn out when you tune in, but if both are shown, then you have a far greater chance of seeing some good racing. That's how I see it...0

Definitely think it's a question of coverage than gender. Agree with the suggestions that running men's and women's events on the same day is the best way of going, logistically too. It's the same problem everywhere though. I'd love to see more women's football – far better than the men's. Less tears.0

slightly starling news....
Al Jazeera's broadcasting live the Laydees Tour of Qatar starting tomorrow...
:shock:0 -
Thanks for the info (I genuinely hope that's not a Cyclismas wind up).0

In readiness for tomorrow then, here's the link (I guess)

Have to say it doesn't look promising.0 -

This is why I suggested a thread in Pro Race and not a new section. Pro Race is very popular, every time you visit, the Women's Pro Race is part of it is there in front of you. It's the visibility thing.
Pro Race is not called 'Men's Pro Race' is it.0 -
