Why would Cavendish get upset about being asked about LA?

My take on it was that it probably went along the lines of this...

Journalists: what about lance? what about lance? what about lance? what about lance? what about lance? what about lance? what about lance? what about lance?

Cavendish actually said that all he was doing was asking about him, suggesting there were repeated questions. Either way Cavendish made himself look like a moron.

  • Jeez,
Is this thread still going. So Cav tells a journo to fukc off. Who gives a flying?
The amusing comments (and there are a few) are the only ones I am bothering to to read.

You're a mouthy little prick for someone with 190 posts. Perhaps try contributing to the community before telling people to get a life? Just a thought :P

Maybe some of these journalists that are now demanding to ask questions should have spoken up themselves in 1999-2005, but they pedalled what they believed was a lie to their public in exchange for access and circulation. Now they demand the likes of Cavendish, who was a school at the time, answer all questions so these journalists can feel absolved of their own sins.

Is this actually true? I read his auto-biog and don't recall any mention of him being a school.

Mark Cavendishh was born on 21 May 1985. So at the latest of Armstrong's wins he was 20. At the first he was 14 - so yes, he was at school. Is this a problem to you?

    But was he a school?

I'm struggling to think of another sportsman in any other sport who wouldn't end up in a bit of hot water over this sort of thing. Imagine if Beckham had said the same to a US journo who wouldn't stop asking him about not being picked for the Olympic team.

Just seems a bit daft really - not hard to politely decline to answer a question you've already dealt with or want to postpone any comment on. Why on earth people are queueing to defend such nonsense baffles me.

^Because the question wasn't about him and he had been asked it already, by the same journo in the same interview. The first two times he declined to answer, without swearing.

If a double glazing salesman kept knocking on your door asking 'Do you want double glazing?' every five minutes,I wonder how many times some in this thread would politely decline before telling him in no uncertain times to sling his hook. My guess is probably around about the same number of times Cavendish was asked questions about Armstrong before telling this journalist to sling his.

I'm at a loss to see how this can generate so much chat.

But the thread has generated some very entertaining comments (OCD, RR, Ian, Greased...).

I keep promising myself not to look at any more LA threads, roll on the racing.

    Your analogy is incorrect.

It's the equivalent of a double glazing salesman knocking on my door and then telling me to f*ck off because I'm asking questions about other double glazing salesmen and an industry rife with dodgy practices when really he just wants me to be quiet and buy his double glazing.

No it's not. The situation is someone asking one person the same question a number of times when they have already been told that person is not interested. I defy anyone to not eventually get fed up with being asked the same question multiple times in a short space of time.

You need to consult Iainf72's Cavendish formula, it's all in there...

From what I've seen/read of the set up at the OPQS team presentation, by Cav's reaction - and my experience of these things - what we haven't seen is the bit before his outburst. I wasn't there, but I suspect it involved the collected press and media being welcomed by the chief press officer. He will have probably stipulated the proviso that the riders would be happy to discuss the upcoming season, their kit/bikes, how they're settling in, how the training's going, etc but can we keep the Armstrong questions out/to a minimum: we can arrange specific interviews for riders thought about that (and let's face it- who will give a toss what Stijn Vandenbergh or Mateo Trentin have got to say about LA unless they're particularly livid or insightful about it; so it's always going to come down onto the "stars" of the team).

The whole media thing is a game. Maybe if Beckham let himself have the occasional outburst he wouldn't come across as such a wet blanket. The press generally like Cavendish because he's still got the rough diamond thing going on. Back when Cycle Sport magazine was essentially blacklisted by Armstrong they often talked about what a relief/delight it was to deal with a sweary Cav after all the vapid old guff they get from everyone else.

What seems "daft" and "baffles me" is that people are so pious and judgemental about people they've (probably) never met, their behaviour in a situation they (probably) weren't present at - under circumstances they (probably) haven't got a fukcing clue about.
If people have a problem with Cavendish telling a journo to "F*ck off!", I'd suggest they don't watch a YouTube clip entitled 'Mark Cavendish: "F*uck off!"'

  • Do you have a new Spring/Summer handbag collection for the new season?

I've a feeling it may be called upon many times.

Given OCDP's frequently cited 'connections', I'm not sure this is purely coincidental:

'A handbag belonging to Margaret Thatcher fetched £25,000 when it went under the hammer on Monday, auctioned by Lord Archer.' : http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2011 ... ty-auction

That's a dismantler of weak arguments.

Not quite sure I warranted it, but thanks for the first of new season, Greased. The irony is that my reaction to that simply horrid green definitely genuinely deserved one...

You probably didn't, but I'm trying to clear out some old stock before the spring/summer stuff comes on line. :D

I'm not offended by the guy saying f*ck off. That isn't my angle at all.

I'm just puzzled that someone who is surrounded by the media constantly, and whose team (and therefore his professional racing career) largely depends on the media giving coverage to the brands/companies that sponsor them, can be so poor at handling that same media. Isn't that an essential part of the job these days? Even more baffling is the idea that this inability is seen as evidence that the guy is somehow "better" or "more credible" than other cyclists.
