The metre was originally defined in 1793 as one ten-millionth of the distance from the equator to the North Pole along a great circle, so the Earth's circumference is approximately 40000 km. In 1799, the metre was redefined in terms of a prototype metre bar (the actual bar used was changed in 1889). In 1960, the metre was redefined in terms of a certain number of wavelengths of a certain emission line of krypton-86. The current definition was adopted in 1983 and modified slightly in 2002 to clarify that the metre is a measure of proper length.

Or, 2.16 metres in defiance to leaders without example.

I suspect a case of reality meeting the rose tinted dream.

An old mate who dad was close on 7 foot used to drive a mini with his head through the sun roof. Used to confuse the living daylights out of the tourists :)
Not that I'm objecting but elf&safety would have a fit.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Was out in the middle of nowhere so thought I was safe to take a "natural break". Finished and turned round to see a female dog walker. I was concerned what her response would be.
    A cheesy grin.
No, it's not one of "those" stories. I just smiled back and we went happily on our separate ways.

Was the old man still visible as you turned around?
The answer to that question may influence whether you should be offended by the cheesy grin.

The answer to your question is most definitely not.
I’m guessing she just found the situation funny, as it was.

My gas and electric direct debit going down by over 40%

Bizarrely, I was offered a surprisingly good rate which I commented on earlier. This has gone live today.
My small increase in rates (well below cap) coupled with being several hundred pounds in credit and the government stumping up £400 this winter has seen my direct debit plummet.

A very mild winter definitely helped but, on topic with the other thread, this was the first full winter with top up insulation in the attic.

Rumour has it that Zwift are doing a special Jubilee event to amuse the Queen. Participants will apparently find that their avatar is mounted on a horse. The horse will be chosen according to rider profile.

Convertibles have unlimited headroom which can be a good thing, just not very often in this country.
This reminded me of an MGB that was left outside my office window by a recovery firm some years ago. I took me a moment to see what had happened, the windscreen was cracked all across the top, the bonnet had a crease in it a couple of feet forward of the hinges, there was a round dent about 18 inches forward of the crease. So the bonnet latch must have failed at speed, bonnet flew up folding across the top of the windscreen and bopping the driver on the top of the head. Ouch!!!

Yes I know the team is in disarray and a bit crap but the start of the summers test cricket always feels good.

But MG owners need to be bopped on the head.

We're very much the outsiders here though. It's a fringe festival at Hay we always do run by the Institute of Arts and Ideas so we're sitting in a yurt with Vince Cable and a bunch of people with posh accents who almost certainly voted for Vince's team. There's bound to be a bunch of Cake Stoppers here somewhere

Yeah and this is a fringe festival focussed on philosophy so think what that is like! They're a brilliant audience though.

It must be a bit odd singing whilst contemplating whether your existence is reality or a simulation. What are they singing?
