True. 😉 There are many other things to cheer me up in the meantime.pinno said:Too long. I'd be champing at the bit like a mad thing.

Maybe buy one of these as an alternative in the meantime?

However, Bally takes it today. 😉

Definitely cheaper than Bally's choice. I've done the Alps and Dolomtes is a TR6 a few times. The Lucas fuel injection struggled on some of the high passes, the only option was to floor it.pblakeney said:

On this tack; decided to do the infamous Glen Luce bypass descent.
(Your not supposed to - banned to cyclists)
Why? 'Cos it's there. It looms at you and I often lamented not having ever gone down it since it was built and had an attempt last week but the traffic was too heavy and fast.
It's steep, about just under 1 mile in a straight line.
Went over the top and quickly hit 30 mph. But there was a cross wind. Then came the cracks in the tarmac in the middle of the left hand wagon rut and the tarmac was seriously rough. At only 34mph, the front end is sticking in the cracks and wobbling like I had a flat and the wind did not help.
Sudden heart in mouth moment and started braking very gently until I finally came to a standstill. Checked front tyre - it was fine and blessed my cotton socks I didn't come off and get flattened by an Artic.
Came off it smiling saying 'never again'.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -
Could be that is why it is closed to cyclists.
Just guessing here.0 -
It's 2 lanes up the hill and down; you can overtake. I think it's just too busy to be safe and there is actually, more than 1 alternative.
Fantastic acceleration going down it in a reasonably fast carseanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -
How has somebody (who?) done this? Has a law been passed or what?pinno said:On this tack; decided to do the infamous Glen Luce bypass descent.

trouble with these reports, they rarely get followed up

I've had a quick look at all the approaches and can't see a prohibition of cycling sign anywhere and it isn't a motorway so nothing to say cycling is banned on there to me. Horrible looking road though so I wouldn't ride on it, there's no fun in going flat out on a dead straight downhill section like that. Far more enjoyable doing it on a mountain road with corners to navigate and an element of skill being required.0

That accident was odd (and the photo is old) because the next bypass to be completed was the Dunragit bypass, which linked the two. (March 2014 - the accident was in May that year). In the process, they put in a very decent cycle path all the way form Glenluce to Castle Kennedy. The old A75 route is available to cycle on and you really don't need to be on the A75 to get to Glenluce. What she was doing there, I do not know. That pic is way before the Dunragit bypass was completed because it doesn't even show the works.Charlie_Croker said:

It is advised that you don't use the bypass - I know a couple pf cyclists that were told by traffic police to stay off it and there are signs that direct you off it, so my use of the word 'banned' is for the want of a better word.
Bar yesterdays malarkey, I avoid the A75 as much as possible.
There's either mad motorists trying to get past trucks (off the ferries) or going silly 'cos they're late for one.

In my experience of riding up in Scotland any A-roads with single or double digit numbers are to be avoided. In fact, most A-roads.The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

A phone that was actively marketed to criminal gangs as highly secure, cost a load, and could only be bought if you were recommended by existing (criminal) users. Turned out that it was the FBI who set it up, and every message sent using it went to them as well as the recipient.0 -
And despite tip offs, bagged a few dodgy cops too.
The only problem, can it be done again?seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -
That's the double bonus. They'll never be certain that it isn't already being done again. Makes it immediately more difficult for them.pinno said:And despite tip offs, bagged a few dodgy cops too.

Go to page 9, under 'National Cycle
Route 73
(Completion)'
It states that D & G Council was responsible for signage. It has not happened bar basic signage for the cycle path.
(and they are one of the worst councils I have ever dealt with)
You get directed through Glen luce village and then meet the A75 at the top of that hill and there's diddley squat.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -

After reading the other thread... wanting a gp appointment, going online this morning, having a choice of 5 different doctors who I could choose from to see today. I didn't realise it was an unusually good system.1

He still wouldn't be able to have babies and furthermore would no longer be able to father babies.
Though, just like the PFJ, I support his right to have babies, even without a womb.0 -
Don’t we have to pretend he does have a womb like a real woman.ballysmate said:He still wouldn't be able to have babies and furthermore would no longer be able to father babies.

NB: I suspect I should not have used the term “real woman” but could not think of a better way of expressing myself. I do apologise if I have invaded anybody’s woke space.0 -
