Decent progress
The new forum reproduction of photos must have been in the 'annoyances' thread... I've not idea what yours is on about, as it's just a small fuzzy thing...0 -
Just a strava screenshot, same ride each roughly 2 months apart, each one faster than the last, 25kph, 28kph and today 30kph0

Amazing the difference a bit of a tailwind makesrick_chasey said:Just a strava screenshot, same ride each roughly 2 months apart, each one faster than the last, 25kph, 28kph and today 30kph

You probably are faster, but certain loops I do are faster with certain wind directions, depending on what's sheltered or exposed to certain directions of wind, so if I want to pretend I'm fitter, I just have to pick the right dayrick_chasey said:

I always study the wind direction hard before setting off.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0

And it cheers me up no end when I get it right... I did one ride in France this year where I could see it was going to be a Mistral-ish sort of wind, so headed along to the Rhone, and did about 5 miles due south, top speed on the flat of 60kmh without really trying... then did a gentle diagonal to get back north again to the Drome Valley.pinno said:I always study the wind direction hard before setting off.
Mind you, the winds along valleys and around the mountains are a bit bonkers - the turbulence and vortexes, even on relatively calm days, leads to some very strange changes in directions, and even now I sometimes get caught out for stretches.0 -
Unfortunately for me, I live in prevailing westerlies.
However, I have this oft used loop which is roughly a triangle.
If the wind is in the West to North, I go clockwise. If it's North to East, I go anti-clockwise. That way I get a headwind, crosswind and tail wind. Sometimes, the middle leg is a tail/cross wind - and that's always in the back of my mind when heading out of the drive - left or right?
The only downside, is that in the pursuit of the TWH, this loop is very hilly. By February, i'm, sick fed up of it.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -

I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
This is less of an issue in the flat fields around Cambridge.briantrumpet said:

Nope. September usually heralds the Westerly season. That means that February is almost 6 months into it with another couple of months of uncertainty.pblakeney said:

When there is a southerly/easterly, it's yippee!

Ha, fantastic. If I could fit a tractor in my backyard (it would have to come through the house to get there too), this is something I'd do... after rebuilding the house.pinno said:Sorry but can I get 'When the saints go marching in' or the St Louis blues on an instrument as in your user ID next time please?

You don't fancy doing a quick rendition of 'Rule Britannia' or 'Land of Hope and Glory' then?"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
I'd get in trouble for not singing the words... and no, you definitely don't get me singing, whatever the song is. I'd look like John Redwood trying to sing the Welsh National Anthem...Stevo_666 said:

I'm not sure that "Hope and Glory" is indicated by the latest incoherent ramblings of Johnson, Cummings & Frost, but I might mash something together for you...0 -

I did two takes so I could log the mileage for both. Well, I might have done three, just in case...1 -

Actually, I was concentrating really hard for this one - I only pick up the trombone about once a year - so the pedalling was low on my priorities.0 -

Is this one of those 'pay what you think it's worth' arrangements?"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0
