I'm actually sick of how windy this summer has been more than the lower temps and rain, every ride seems to involve a battle in to a headwind at some point, there certainly has been no calm still summer evenings.

Takes me to my pet hobby horse.
Less wind if you go out in the early morning.
Not in East Yorkshire there isn’t.
    Or SW Jockland.
My gripe is that it seems to be an eternal West/North Westerly and if I want to have a TWH, I have to go uphill almost straight away and the loop (if I do a rough figure of 8) is a maximum 26 miles.

    @briantrumpet : Leave at 6am surely?
Just to prove my point about early mornings. Compare your (roughly) wind forecast for tomorrow. Much better early in the day. 6 mph gusts is nothing to moan about.

I was referring to the heat BT was concerned about and the restriction on ride length.

The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

7am, possibly. Remember that the mornings are darker here, not just because it's not one hour ahead in true solar time, but also because the longest days are an hour shorter than in southern England.

Just checked - sunrise tomorrow here is 6.39am, Exeter is 6am.

Sunrise in the mountains is more of a concept than reality. Aiming for 7 tomorrow, as if I get it right I should get a stonking tailwind for 25 miles home.

At least at the moment the nights aren't too cold... I've had days at the end of August where it's started at 9C and got up to 30C by lunchtime, which means you either wear too much for later on and have to carry it round after the first couple of hours, or you start absolutely freezing for the first part.

Got 60 miles in the bag by noon, though slightly annoyed that the tailwind turned round 180° for the last 10 miles. Also, 19° at the start felt jolly parky, the 29° at the end less so, and by the time I finished lunch it was 33°, so job done.

    Siesta time.

Translating for those stuck in Imperial Land. 96km, if you prefer. It would have been even better if it had been 99, just to wind up the Round Numbers Only crowd.

My Cingles attempt was something like 99.6km.

I was thinking about what non-round numbers I prefer, and I think it goes x0, x2, x4, x5, x6, x8. In other words, x1, x3, x7 and x9 are annoying, unless it's 99, and that annoys other people more than me, so quite nice for a laugh.

Trying out a doorstep milk delivery. Wednesday's delivery was four bottles. One was put in the little 4-bottle cool box the other three lined up outside it in full sun. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Primary reason for not considering the option.
Secondary reason is remembering the overspill on frosty mornings in the 70s.

    Weird.

Usually takes a few weeks to bed in.

Tbh if you’re up early enough the cool box is not necessary. Plus they look sh!t.

Done it for about 4 years now. I reckon they get stolen by skagheads maybe 3 times a year?

Pubs pushing to serve alcohol early on Sunday for the football so that supporters can ‘enjoy the full pub experience’. Why do people need to drink alcohol to be able to enjoy a sporting event with friends? They’ll be able to serve from kick off time anyway. If the pubs wanted it so much why didn’t they bite the bullet and apply in time before the semi final anyway? They could then decide if it would be worth opening or not.

I have never watched football buyt I seem to remember some international competition about 15 years ago (presumably in a far flung time zone) when the pubs were opening before I had even started work and serving alcohol.
Memorable to me because my then housemate was so drunk by mid afternoon that he repeatedly fell asleep on various trains and it took him about 7 hours to make it from Victoria to Wimbledon

Have discovered one of the presumed undelivered pints two days later under the front hedge. Presumably a thirsty fox. Seems they deliver at 11.30 at night so would really be helpful if they use the cool box. Giving them one more chance to complete the simple task.

Most pubs in these parts don't seem to stay open until 11pm even in the weekdays.

With things like the football the pub trade bodies try to make out it is all about the football and doing something for the fans whereas it is obviously just an opportunity to jump on a bandwagon and make a few quid. That said, they had enough power to not only get the Government to reopen pubs before everything else in lockdown but also get the Government to pump money into getting people to use them so they seem pretty good at lobbying!
