Makes sense. So that would include the erection of non-existent bogeymen to be "other" than? Also, more sinisterly, the massive exaggeration of the views or actions of minority in order to make them "bad" enough to deserve being actively opposed?

Indeed. Not sure if wars have been fought over the inappropriate use of cycling jerseys but it can only be a matter of time ...
  • I may be opening the can of worms again, however i bought my first cycle jersey last Wednesday and its not a team one or anything, just a black one with a brand on it (i forget which its not a big named one i dont think) The only reason being, the day before i was out on a ride and saw a bloke in a Team Sky Jersey and felt the urge to push myself to catch him up on the hill we were climbing!

Christ on a bike !! Is this thread still going on ?!?!
Science adjusts it’s beliefs based on what’s observed.
Faith is the denial of observation so that Belief can be preserved

Looks like it to me. He's going for the single polka-dot look. I think he's in the process of raising his arms to celebrate a win on Alpe d'Huez. Must be rainy/misty judging by the look of the light from the motorcycle headlight behind him.

The pro replica kit tends to be cheaply made anyway. Wouldn't run the risk of embarrassing myself, unlike some. One chap I know owns the full team Astana outfit, and boldly walked around Sigma Sport in it.

Personally I'm not big on the idea of owning any pro-team kit... and never came across anyone wearing the yellow, green, white, or polka jersey. Seen someone wear the rainbow jersey though. He was riding a Cube through Kingston.

I often think if bike shop chains offered a way of printing your own design of jersey, it would be really popular. A bit like Nike ID i guess. Works for them.

You can only wear a Green Jersey if the reason you are riding a bike is because you got enough points to lose your driving licence

Normally I wouldn't wear pro kit, but I have a contact at a pro team who's offered to get me whatever kit I want at dirt cheap prices.

So I'll feel righteous that I'm wearing good kit and it's hardly put a dint in my bank balance, but I'll also feel dirty and ashamed that I'm not a pro rider so I'll look like a replica kit wearing fanboy.

    I feel tormented inside.

If it helps you feel worse, don't forget that you are also a tightwad who sells his principles down the river for the price of a cheap jersey!

My kids bought me a Sky team jersey and I don't give a sh1te what people think of me wearing it. I'd stop short of wearing stick on side burns though.

there is nothing wrong with belongingto a tribe, you wear and do the things your chosen tribe does, I think its all about the perception of belonging, the leg shaving, legs of glasses over helmet straps etc.

I think WC jerseys, etc should only be worn by WCwinners. You wouldnt want to turn up on NapoleonD's spring fling and Pokerface is wearing his WC jersey ('cos he is a world champion), I think you may feel a bit of a tit. Wear if you want, but you de-value it a bit if you do.

Sky kit IMHO, is a bit different as the British attitudes seem to be behind SKY after Wiggo and Cavs success this year, nothing wrong with indulging yourself with an homage to your team, no-one is gonna mistake you for a pro, and if they do, go along with it and tell them a lie about Cav or wiggo it will make joe publics day.

The "I dont care what people think", chaps on here, by posting do give a toss, they are trying really hard not to.
Personally, if you turned up on my clubs ride and were friendly but wearing a champions/polka/yellow jersey, you would get the mickey taken out of you and I would personally try and rip your legs off at any given chance.......in my all matching Northwave jersey, shorts, socks and shoes. :P
