What is she then? She has an excellent sprint.
OK.
I bow to your superior knowledge of her background with the British ODP and academy, where she chalked up
most of her palmares.
That would be on the track, btw.
Yes, in the scratch and points race where generally being able to sprint is advantageous...0 -
There was no way Vos was going to lose that today. She was so strong. I firmly believe that if Armistead had got the drop on Vos for the sprint, Vos would not have let her come around.
From the overhead shot of the sprint it didn't look to me like Armistead ever looked like getting on terms with Vos.0 -
Great race, shame Shelley Olds couldn't make it a 3-way sprint, as the Russian is not a sprinter. Olds’ track events were scrapped from the Olympics so this one race was her main target for the past couple of years. USA could have had a gold, but a moment of bad luck ended what had been a dream ride. Armitstead came out of Cooke's shadow for sure today, her timing of going with the right break was almost as impressive as the medal. Vos – what a pro. Pulling the break at 48 kph on the flat at Leatherhead and putting time into the chasers was awesome. There is an air of inevitability about Vos these days.
She completely owned the Giro Donne, winning at will and gifting a couple of late stages to avoid a near whitewash.
So far ahead of the rest, in terms of strength and all round fitness, it's unreal.
Only the really tough mountains give her trouble.0 -

Needless to say the Dutch I was sitting amongst went crazy at the finish. The bar area had gradually filled up during the last hour people were enthralled as the race came to a conclusion.0 -
Brilliant race, so much better than the mens RR and the equivalent RR in Beijing - Heres hoping BC and forward looking clubs can now nurture young girls who feel inspired by that.
And how nice to see the joy of cooke, pooley etc - complete contrast to cav's juvenile surliness - a worthy silver - chapeau. The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns
momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself.0 -

The media coverage of the road cycling is just embarassing. It's spoiling it for me to be honest, having to wade through factual errors and misunderstandings.
That was a great great race though.0 -

Yes, but the WCH last autumn was a dire procession.... I guess we should appreciate it's a sport with several possible scenarios, from chess-on-wheels to a cavalry charge. BC and grassroots clubs can play their part but what the women's cycling needs most of all is TV coverage.0 -

Today I think she started her sprint on too high a gear and never got it turning really, probblay decided on gear before han but the road surface was heavier with that rain.
I dont think she was goping to win the sprint and she barely matched the speed of Vos but I think had she jumped form about 1km or 2km she may have had a chance as she looked strongest in the break a few times.
Still it was good to see the two best riders get the medals and fair play to the russian who attacked and managed to stay with them when caught.0 -
Really good race. Not very often you're left thinking that the order of the top 3 was pretty much right and exactly what they deserved.Vos is TOO strong. Great performance from lizzie.Fair play to zabalinskaya working to ensure a medal.
Maybe showed the masses bike racing can be worth watching.More womens racing on tv please.Death or Glory- Just another Story0 -

Excellent race to watch and probably the right (and best result) for GB. Vos is just too strong I'm afraid. It was nice to see the reaction of the other GB girls who seemed genuinely pleased for Lizzie - you can see Pooley break into a smile when she comes across the line and sees the result.
Fingers crossed for at least a medal in the TT !0 -
Was saying to my gf when we were in the phone shop that every time Vos took a turn you could see the other to creaking and straining.0

It's about time that people just started ignoring the tripe that the Daily Mail print, maybe then they'll just go away.
Talking about it (and everybody viewing the article) is just helping them fund the printing of more tripe.

Wasnt Jan Moir the one that said something really offensive about Stephen Gateley's death? All she cares about is makeup and botox.0 -

Classy. The Daily Heil is going even more downhill.
Still credit Jan Moir for getting paid for being a professional troll. Millions do it for free on the interweb every day. It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.0 -

Yesterday was a brilliant advert for women's racing, but it also highlighted continuing disparities between the men's and women's races. Lots of people were asking why it was so short in comparison, but no one seemed to know. Just some stuff about natural breaks being more difficult. I also wonder just how much support the women get from BC. I spot lots of grumbling about opportunities to race. Even at grass roots level the support is uneven. Sometimes girls are rewarded, sometimes not and it often feels like a continuing neglect of female racing and shitty attitudes. More TV coverage - absolutely, but BC needs to make sure it's providing support all the way down to grow the sport.0 -

I don't usually bite on Daily Mail bullsh*t, but she should be ashamed of herself. Disgraceful."And the Lord said unto Cain, 'where is Abel thy brother?' And he said, 'I know not: I dropped him on the climb up to the motorway bridge'."

A slightly more positive take. WARNING, some may find the language offensive.

Am I missing something? Moir is a grade A b!tch and has written some shameful stuff but she said this in the midst of a tongue-in-cheek column on British success or lack of it.0 -

Quite. The Mail is worse in its way than the Sun because of the added layer of sanctimony it slavers over the drivel. So, on the off chance that some haven't seen it, here's the link to the definitive Daily Mail song... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5eBT6OSr1TI0 -

And talking of women's races in Holland, I read today that the Holland Ladies Tour (6 stages long in September; Vos won last year) is as from immediately going to be called the Brainwash Ladies Tour, a rather unfortunate name I think.
It's because the Dutch chain of hairdressing shops, Brainwash Kappers, have become main sponsor of the Tour.
The Tour will include on its last stage part of the world championship course.0
