Tdf Stage 9 *Spoiler*

Nice work Wiggins. TT perfection.
Shame about the gaps but such is the nature of this race. With SO many riders out of contention (if they were even in to start), hopefully we will have two more weeks of crazy attacks for the glory of a stage win.
The profiles to come are not very inspiring for a standard GC changes at the top. To create any GC damage a rider will have to attack from a minimum of 50km out as the 'mountains' to come dont go above 7% average
And as if that wasnt enough you still have this
Wiggins to win by 5+minutes.....Contador is the Greatest0 -

I find it hard to argue with that...0 -

I like the look of the descent into Bagneres Du Luchon, a certain Sicilian could have a real crack down that if Leakgas can stretch it out on the way up.
The alps look crap though. Tousuierre is a climb perfectly suited to Wiggins and unless they can get a gap on him on the way down the Mollard (which is horrible) he wont have to work at all on it."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Fantastic TT by Wiggins... masterclass.
I think there were early signs of problems with Evans... notably reaching for a drink after 3km which is highly unusual that early.
Froome now is the major threat and I cant help but feel that he may be thinking of a coup d'etat. Yes Wiggins has the better of him in the TT, but he is better climber... Even during the Eurosport interview of Froome you cant help but feel that his response was so rehearsed...Lets see!
As for the comment of kelly that maybe Wiggins was told to lay off the gas so as not to alienate other teams, whilst Wiggins clearly didnt slow, Kelly's point is a good one and I suspect Sky may now have invited a far more aggressive approach by the other lower GC contenders in the mountain stages...
Things are getting exciting (relatively!)**************************************************

well done to Wiggo and Froome and th beauty of this is that riders now have to attack in the mountains, although IIRC there are only 2 mountain top finishes. Should make the race exciting now anyway.
First stage win for Wiggo at the tour, lets hope he can get a road stage win as well.
Out of interest what does CIM stand for. I know it's French so something like Chrono Individual something0 -
From the race's point of view Wiggins not finishing would be good - could be a cracking battle between froome and Evans!0

I thought that too - He seemed to be sweating huge amounts too. But it was a good ride regrardlessFckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0 -
Question - if Brad blows on one of the mountains after Rogers and Porte have dropped off does Froome wait or just get on with it? I would assume get on with it.0

Och looks a bit daft. Pre race:
"In last month’s Dauphine Wiggins outclassed the field in a 53 kilometres time trial from Villié-Morgon - Bourg-en-Bresse with Evans finishing 1:43 down. Ochowicz believes that the margin will be far less on stage 9. "I don’t want to put a number on the gap. I think it will be close. A minute to me is not close and I think that this is a different time trial to the one they did at the Dauhpine, it’s more technical and Cadel is good at those."
Margin was exactly 1:43
Still, expect Liquigas and Radioshack to start attacking soon enough...0 -
Fantastic performance. I was expecting about a minute at the most.
Wiggins' rivals will need rockets up their arses in the next five days.0 -

I think Froome will toe the line this year. To be fair, he'd find it hard taking two minutes out of Wiggins without any team support and with another 50km of time trial to come. Unless Wiggins shows serious signs of weakness, 2nd place will be his target for this year. Next year, though, will be a whole different story. Could be very interesting!0 -
The Mad Rapper wrote:frenchfighter wrote:The shirt this guy on ES is wearing is bloody awful
Rob Hayles, former Confidis rider I believe.
He was wearing the same shirt on Thursday last week when I saw him at Look Mum, no hands! - dirty minger. Needs a shave as well.
I thought he was on about Tony Gibb's shirt, now that was atrocious! You live and learn. At any rate, you live0 -
I don't think Sky would have any problems whatsoever promoting Froome. It's too good an opportunity to pass up. They won't ever have it this good again.0

I remember reading somewhere, years ago, a comment by some director sportive who was driving behind (I think it was) Gianni Bugno - after after 15km in that particular TT, Gianni reached for his bottle and the comment was along the lines that that was the beginning of the end... i.e. when you feel like you need a drink you've already started to go off the boil. That comment always stayed with me as a young impressionable junior...
If you go to see a TT these days, you will see riders with bidons but they only have a few mouth fulls in the bidon.**************************************************

I imagine it'll be dealt with in a similar way to the way they did it in the Vuelta - only this time they'll have less competition.0 -

Depends, but I think Sky would want him to wait.
I'd have thought after the Vuelta last year they would get Froome to sit on Evans wheel rather than risk losing both chances.0 -
Next year at Team Sky could be total chaos if Wiggins wins the Tour. Alot of riders will surely want a shot plus Cav will surely be after that stage TDF stage win record.0

Well, I would say that without Froome, Wiggins only has Richie - I dont think Rogers will be there. Also, if Froome made a move, I suspect other teams would jump on the bandwagon... If he does make a move though, it wouldnt be explicit... more like an opportunistic move to "chase down a break" or something like that. Another big (motivating) factor is what teams have waved contracts in front of Froome this week, and how much!**************************************************

It's the Tour though, where people start inexplicably caring about that precious 7th place overall.
I'm thinking more along the lines of Nibali and Cadel. Whether it's a harrowing descent or a torturous climb, I hope that they're ready to pounce on any opportunity. As much as I want Wiggins to win, I don't want the last week to turn into a competition for second and third.0 -
Froome is Wiggin's biggest rival judging by the last 3 days and from what we saw in the Vuelta.
Seems Dave 1 saw something most of us didn't.0 -
