No. Think the team decided to send a message.

I'm not sure that was it. The one they did pick, Lucy Martin, rides for the same team too.

So 2 Englishmen win the Irish titles?

Is Northern Ireland part of England now?

    ETA Yawn

In GB - Stannard, Dowsett and Hampton are in the lead. The peloton seems to have stopped riding and are 5 minutes back.

Norway seems to be between EBH and Nordhaug.

You have seen the photo finish photo from last year?

To lose by that distance after driving the race all day.....

Riders from Northern Ireland can choose Ireland or GB. Cycling Ireland being the governing body for the whole island.

5km 20 secs to G1 with Boonen in it.

I should add Gilbert looks to be killing himself with this effort to reach them.

Precisely. I was pretty pissed he didn't get it. Basically it has gone to a domestique in the pro peloton last three years.

Boonen's expanded a LOT of energy to keep that break ahead.

You wonder if he'll be done over like he did in Het Niuewsblad where he was so broken from the effort in the break he couldn't sprint.

Also happened in E3 when Pozzato won and in Paris-Tour when Gilbert won...

Still favourite mind. Especially with 2012 form.

Boonen could hardly lose that really.

    Elsewhere:

Norway: 1. Boasson Hagen, 2. Nordhaug, 3. Kristoff

Make the selection, do the work, take the win. Class. Let's hope he races with the jersey like he has done so far this year.

Fantastic Boonen! He made it quite an exciting race. Good to see him back in the national jersey.

Geologists have reported a series of tremors with their epicentre in the Fulham area of London. Experts say that they are consistent with somebody jumping up and down on their bed.

    Was a classic Boonen victory.

Create a selection, win the sprint in a small group.

Complain about a headwind in the sprint afterwards.

Apparently the final group was lead out at 35kph, so big was the headwind.

Still 40km to go for the GB champs. The front three (Stannard, Dowsett, Hampton) are 7 minutes ahead of the peloton.

Stannard in a sprint or Dowsett with a late attack?
