Doubt it.
I think he could have, but he probably would have been wasted like Ballan. But there you go, that's racing for you. Like Sagan, I think he'll win this race at some point. Are these two going to become Boonen's main rivals in the next few years?0 -

That Swiss chap and that other Belgian chap might be more pressing rivals .
They are certainly the new generation. Sepp looks like he's going to be the new Hoste.0 -
Did Lastras break the record for number of different bike components used in a single day's racing?0

And he doesn't look like he's been hit with a shovel."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

That's actually the kit the purist 'it wasn't like that in the olden days' wanted for Chavanel.0 -

If it was a boxing ring, he would have won on points.”
No. If Pippo was the strongest (mentally, physically, tactically), he would have won.0 -

Why didn't he at least have a go at breaking Boonen then?0 -

Nah, Boonen naturally has a faster sprint, better legs or not, and I would suggest Pozzato made a tactical error in a) being third (too much ground to make up in a headwind sprint) and b) going left (into the wind) rather than right.0 -

So basically tactically he was very poor so whether he has the legs or not he still lost and his arguement about being the best on the day is invalid. A race is more than Legs, that boy came second because Boonen is a better rider. That's my irritation.0 -

Pozatto's mistake was thinking he could beat Boonen in a sprint. Once they had a minutes lead, he should have started missing turns and then countered Ballan's attack. Not sure he would have won, but reckon he would have had a better chance than taking Boonen on in a sprint.0 -
Take a look at M-SR this year.
Canc was definitely the strongest - the best legs.
He still couldn't win, because of the way the tactics played out.
It's like poker, you may have two aces which is a 'stronger' hand - doesn't mean you'll always win with it.0 -

Yup.
You have to wonder how tired he was given he didn't go over the top after Boonen chased Balan down.0 -
But we agree that cycling is a sport where the strongest rider doesn't always win, right? That's why we like it. So it's possible that Pozzato was stronger than Boonen and just played his hand wrong. Personally I was shouting at my telly for Pippo to attack when Ballan made his first effort with 3km to go. He didn't hear me...0

Mind you, it's easy for all of us to comment, how many times have any of us won the Tour of Flanders.

True, I was even doing a comedy Italian accent, just so he'd understand me.0
