Just wondered if there are any other new riders in the area wanting company on a ride
or alternatively
Any experienced riders who would be willing to put up with a new (not ridden for 10 years) rider on a beginners ride?

I've been a Loughborough based MTBer for many years and have a 30 year old Claud Butler for a winter road hack, but today I'm sat by the door like a little kid, waiting for a delivery of something *very* shiny from Ribble. I'm not new to road biking, but this will be my first ever 'modern' road bike, so I feel like a newbie.
When do you go riding? What sort of distances? Would be happy to have some company0 -
No routine yet - literally got the bike on Saturday.
Used to do 30 milers but as I say not ridden for 10 years so will be starting of with say 10miles and seeing how I progress.
Guessing I need to do 5 or 6 rides to guage before lumbering anyone with an asmatic ant carrying heavy shopping.
I will le you know how I go. Will be nice to get back in the groove and meet up with folk when I an sure I will not embarras myself.Yellow is the new Black.0 -
Okeydokey. Give me a shout when you fancy some company. Like I said, I've only just got back into it myself so don't worry about holding me up - I don't exactly 'go for it'
There's some nice(ish) roads on the Beacon Hill side of Lougborough and over towards Oaks in Charnwood and down to Whitwick0 -
Hi smidsy count me in, I'm nearby and my rides are mostly out your way. I ride round bradgate, cropston, shepshed, markfield etc and environs, polly botts hill is fun as a hill climb.... And it would be great to ride with someone. I have been bit lax with the riding so far this year, end of last, so getting out with someone would be great. You will be surprised, when riding with others, the miles whizz by and before you know it you will be doing 40 at a time.... Riding in a group/ with a friend or two is sooo much easier than on your own. Let me know when you want a ride out...0

Thanks both - will pm you when I feel competent.
So far been out twice. First time was Thurs and only managed 8 miles.
Just got back from my second outing and my sit bones are feeling it. Again only managed the same 8 miles.
It's going to take me a few months to get somewhere near an accompanied ride I think.
And when did someone move the alps to Leicestershire!!!! :shock:Yellow is the new Black.0 -
Just a thought. Are you using decent shorts/longs with a good pad in them ?
The other lads, I'm on the Thorpe acre side of Loughborough and tend to go out eastwards towards Keyworth way, nice roads and not at all hilly. Don't mind a ride out over charnwood forest but I'm not too good on the hills. Would like to join any of you for a spin as I too tend to ride on my own. Not too fit at the moment though but as mentioned when riding in company the miles seem to go by that much quicker and easier.0 -
I'm up for a ride. It can be a bit tricky to find time at the moment, but I try and get out for a hour or two on Tuesdays and Thursdays while working from home (heh) and, family commitments permitting, weekend mornings0
-
Mr B
I too am home based so when not at a specific meeting I too can maximise the day (so to speak).
Thursday 16th could be a goer if you fancy it?Yellow is the new Black.0 -
Why not. As long as the weather isn't entirely filthy I'm up a blast on the 16th. Any preference for route and distance?0
-
No, no preference as long as it is not too demanding on my pathetic, unfit bodyYellow is the new Black.0
-
Would like to tag along if thats OK.0
-
No trouble to me John, happy to have you.
My plans have been slightly altered (always a possibility in my work) and I will not be able to get out till around 14.30 if that changes anything?Yellow is the new Black.0 -
Still good for me. We need to arrange a route and a place to meet. I've got the week off next week0
-
Well I am in Shepshed and John is East Loughborough, not sure where you are so anywhere central.
As for routes I've only gone Belton way thus far, so no experience of others. Happy to go wherever the consensus is remembering we will only have about 1hr 30 m ins of daylight.Yellow is the new Black.0 -
We could do a lap from Belton through Long Whatton,Diseworth then back along the top road to Griffydam then back down Belton lane. Thats a 13 mile circuit.0
-
Hi John
You going out Sat morning? We could do a dry run - weather permittingYellow is the new Black.0 -
Count me in - might be able to make Saturday morning too. Where you guys planning to start from? Belton?0
-
Seems like Belton yes.
John - over to youYellow is the new Black.0 -
Unless its icy which is a no no for me then Sat' Ok. I usually go out about 9.30 so would be at Belton about 9.45. Just so the weather is a bit better later on in the morning0
-
If you end organising any weekend rides can probably count me in, I to am like the asmatic ant when it comes to the Leicestershire alps!
I'm over the other side but don't mind a drive over to common start point, plus rides out that way into Bradgate are some good roadsFelt AR4

Hi guys
I'm a member of Loughborough Student's CC, hopefully we'll see you about on a ride sometime Agree that there are some lovely roads around Woodhouse and Cropston, but I also wanted to suggest Culke Abbey as a lovely ride.
Bosworth is a nice place to go, as well.Go for the break

I assume one has to be a student at the University to join?
Then again even if not I expect you are all budding Olympic Atheletes for team GB and hence not the best environment for old git like meYellow is the new Black.0 -
Not looking great for tomorrow, is it? Forecast to be -4 or lower over night so it'll probably be pretty icy. I was out on the mountain bike last night and, while most of the road sections I rode were OK there were some fairly dicey bits0
-
Well over this way it is currently ok - obviously cold but roads ok. If it stays the same then it may be fine but as you say could be a no show. Only way we will know for sure is to give it the 'foot' test in the morning.
Anyone who does not wish to risk it then fair enough I say but as long as it is no worse I will be at Belton Church for 09.45 and will wait till 10.00 before setting off on a steady jaunt.Yellow is the new Black.0 -
Is Belton church on the main road through or in the village( I really should know this). If the roads are dry then I think it will be ok.0
-
John its in the village opposite the Queens Head Pub on the road out of the village to Diseworth so not on the main Rempstone Rd if that makes sense. Very visible with spire.Yellow is the new Black.0
-
I suppose I should get me finger out / man up / get stuck in / whatever
I'll be there about 9:45 - I'll be cycling over from near Woodhouse Eaves so I'll have to guess how long that'll take. Look out for a red lid, white bike, and black gimp outfit(!)0 -
As I say as long as the roads are clear then will be there.
