that sucks. hope they can sort it out and your on the bike soon.
would you like me to take care of your bionicon? it will just make you feel even worse having to ak past it it and not be able to ride it0 -
As it happens, I'm considering long-term-loaning the Edison to someone.
I'd rather it was getting used than just sitting there in the garage. It'd be a bit big for you anyway though Jay
Richie, funny you should say that because I'm actually planning to get the garage set up with some gym equipment.0 -
In which case, your first piece of equipment should be a hot tub!!0

Shitabrick fella possibility of no more riding....really hope it doesn't come to that and you fit and well soon...liverpool ain't that bad some cracking looking birds around (take ear plugs though)
My mate had something similar happen last year and he had a large penis airbrushed on his cast which was quite funny...perhaps we could suggest some artwork ?0 -
Maybe's art work saying,' Cut here and here and here and here......"I'm going to blow the bank on a new build ( within reason ) NOW DONE!!

seriously though best of luck with the recovery0 -
Outstanding.
Work are paying for all my flights to/from l'pool, and arranging for cars to take me to and from the airport at both ends for my pre-op consultation and the operation itself. They'll be getting the money back from BUPA eventually, but it still saves me a small fortune right on top of christmas.

Cat With No Tail wrote:Just been to see the consultant, who has informed me that the MRI shows a Grade 3 LCL tear.
See when I tore my ACL, I had a chat with the consultant which went a bit like "Well yeah, we could do surgery on that, but to be honest you're probably buggered either way, so probably best just not **** with it since at least that way you'll not get MRSA and die in hospital" So I said "Oh, OK, what will I be able to do with this knee then, and he said "****-all".
But as it turned out, it's not so bad. Cruciates are right contrary bastards. Get yours told.Uncompromising extremist0 -
This was actually my first answer due to all the hassle involved "Do I really need to have surgery?"
Apparently, yes, I do.
The LCL is the bit that limits lateral movement. In my case (and I might add, rather unusually) it has completely delaminated from the bone, the doc described it best, "it's completely un-zipped away from the bone".
Without it, my leg would be too unstable, and would almost certainly lead to further damage. It will need to be either stapled bck in place using a bone staple (can be done keyhole stylee), or alternatively will a more complex procedure involving posts and grafts and stuff (has to be proper "open knee" surgery).
Got my pre-op consultation on Weds in Liverpool, so I'll know which one I need after that.0 -

bad news CWNT, hope you get plenty of R&R and try and rest that leg.

Notes on MRI:Healing fracture through head of fibula is noted. There is a large joint effusion. There is a considerable amount of bony bruising in the medial anterior corner of the medial femoral condyle and in the medial corner of the proximal tibia and central portion of the proximal tibia, where there may be an undisplaced fracture centrally, close to the insertion of the anterior cruciate ligament.
The anterior cruciate ligament does appear intact but possible partial tear distally, and there is no bony displacement at its insertion. The posterior cruciate ligament is intact. The menisci are intact. The extensor mechanism is intact. There is thickening with some increased signal and poor definition at the insertion of the lateral collateral ligaments, consistent with a significant tear in this region. The medial collateral ligament is intact.
Struggling to make sense of all the MRI images to get a picture up of the tear. I've got the entire disc, 8 different angles, with around 26shots making up each one. Will try and get a summary printout or something next week. For the time being though, this is the Fibula brak:

Ok, update after my consultation with the surgeon today.
Good news is that after almost 5 weeks, my breaks are now healed enough that I can remove my cast. WOOOOHOOOO!!! It will be destroyed with fire, lots of it!
It does have to be replaced with one of these however:
Bad news is that I do need surgery. I have grade 3 tears on both my ACL and LCL. These will require hamstring grafts to fix.
Because I've been in plaster for a month, my leg is too stiff and I've lot too much muscle for them to operate right now. I've got to stsrt physio now with the brace on and build up as much movement and muscle as possible.
My surgery is booked in for the 10th Jan, the ACL can be grafted endoscopically (sp) but the LCL will require full open-knee surgery and pins and stuff. Sill, should only be in the hospital overnight though so not too bad.
