Any idea how fast you were going when you came off from the endomondo data?

Not sure, but probably only a couple of mph. It was a very slow speed off. Front wheel vanished into a bog, back end started coming up. Sideways bail onto what looked like a grass bank, but was actually just a deep rut covered with grass.

I wish I could claim I did it at a thousand mph while hitting a massive roadgap or something else rad and gnarley, but fact is, it was pretty unsepectacular

Does that mean you ended up in a sideways ditch with your leg backwards?

Another nightmare for me was showering, it was hilarious, me and my crutches in the bathroom. I got one of these covers and they are a blessing

Alternatively a black wheelie bin bag taped around the leg works well too.

Front experience I assure you it does not

Worked fine for me, admittedly I had to use a lot of tape and it was very tight but the leg stayed completely dry.

    'sallright, you've got a spare.

Does Endomondo have a mode for recording Manly Injured Limping? I'd be a bit miffed if it doesn't, were I you.

  • The Northern Monkey - Good one! Also, I've now got "big sticks" to help me walk.

Raymondavalon - They never even showed me the x-rays. Hoping to see some when I go back on Thurs to fracture clinic though.
As for showering, I've got one of those cast covers on the way, and no, thankfully it looks at this time like surgery will not be needed. I'm actually hoping that because of where the break is, they'll tell me I can just have it strapped up rather than having the full cast jobby on there.

I also tried the bin liner thing last night. This is why I've got one of the cast covers on the way now

Good news about not having surgery, the worst part of my injury was the post operation pain.

Those covers are a blessing, bin liners do let water seep in slowly. Plus you'll find other uses for it, like suffocating large poisonous snakes, sneaking a shotgun into your local church group and it'll make a novelty party hat too...

had a similar break about 2 years ago (fibula, sprial fracture)

mine was done while pissed tho (fell down some stairs)

    advice from me:

dont be in too much of a hurry to heal

have a look into supplements that can help accelerate bone healing (silica etc)

see the physio more than once (i didnt and managed to create an imbalance in my posture which caused me back issues over a year later)

    good luck at the clinic

Full length casts suck, I had one on my leg when I did my cruciate in. I used to get the skin on my leg trapped between the cast and the toilet seat when I was doing a turd, was bloody annoying. Only plus side was I could walk about on it with crutches after a while, useful for getting round the house etc, hopping everywhere is a right pain.

Get well soon though, seems like a pretty nasty one to me!

    Sideways bail

do you mean you had to bail sideways or was it a bail that you rated as sideways?

Better than getting the turd trapped between the cast and your skin I reckon.

That is true. Not sure why you would be doing a turd into the cast in the first place though?

There's no photo's of it snapped with no cast - therefore it didn't happen

Seriously - bad luck on the accident - well done on the MTFU pill and full box of wheetabix you must have eaten that morning! Hope your riding again soon (probably with a very withered leg)

it is well known in medical circles that the best way to treat a lower leg fracture is to go in via the anus [sideways] so as to reduce scarring.

thing is though, not touching my member is the only thing that makes it cross.

I reckon you would like it when it is proper angry.

Hope you mend quickly. All the best.
  • Dammit!

According to the consultant, it's a bit worse than they first thought.

The break is still the same, but in addition to this, there is some blood in the knee which they say might mean a torn ACL. There is some other stuff going on in there too so they've booked me in for an urgent MRI.

Just about to get in touch with BUPA to see if they can take over my treatment.
It should be pointed out that the level of care I've received on the NHS so far has been superb. I'm only going private because it's paid for by work, and if it helps reduce NHS waiting times for others, I may as well.

More pics (apologies for the webbo slippers, but the wife bought them the other day and they are comft as fook):

You can just about make out the bruising. It runs right round my knee, then all the way down the left side of the leg almost to the ankle.

No holes or blood or bits of bones sticking out.
    MTFU.

But at least your wife loves you.

    That's my speciality! :D

CWNT, I too can only applaud the NHS treatment I received when I turned my leg into a jigsaw puzzle. They are great

BUPA is probably the best choice right now, they'll act swiftly and you'll get the short term diagnosis needed to get you on the mend.

Good luck and keep us informed

Ouch. Sucks. Been there myself. Did my ligaments and kneecap training up the Catford cc hillclimb years ago when a roadie. Road home 30 miles with 1 or sometimes 2 legs. Doc said it was the riding that fecked my knee up. Couldn't ride for more than a mile or two after that for about 10 years.

    Heal well.

Ps. Lucky you didn't have bones drilled. That HURTS. I've got a titanium plate in my hand after I cased the imax stairs in London a few years ago. Mbuk forum ride. :)
