That's not a bruise.0 -

Those spots on your leg indicate rabies and meningitis - and the consultan't didn't pick that up. FFS that's fatal and they are worrying about blood in your knee. Tell him from me that you've got blood in your heart - what's he going to do about that then,??!
When they give you the MRI ask to lie on your back - you don't want them giving you one when you are vulnerable!0 -
Well, my MRI appt is tomorrow, although it very nearly didn't happen at all no thanks to BUPA.
Story so far (not that I expect anyone gives a rats ass):
After they referred me, NHS said it was 2wk+ for urgent MRI, my doc suggested using my BUPA cover (which I have through work) so booked that.
Finally got appt through on Fri and it then transpired that BUPA refuse to pay for it due to a dispute with the hospital over cost. They were however willing to cover my flights and transfers to a private hospital in St Helens to get it done, plus an overnight stay. But I had to arrange EVERYTHING myself.
It then turned out I can't fly because most aircraft from IOM are too small, and the airlines that are big enough wont do it for H&S reasons, or want me to take my cast off and have my knee bent for the duration (thanks Easyjet).
Again, let BUPA know. Their suggestion was to get the ferry to Heysham and hire a car. Pointed out this was somewhat difficult with a full-length cast. Their suggestion was to get someone to drive me, and stay in a hotel overnight then drive me back, but they'd still only pay for me.
Failing that, use public transport.
Told them to farking shove their private cover.
Phoned NHS back on monday to try and make a new appt. Thinking it was going to be yet another 2-3 weeks. Luckily managed to speak to a radiologist who took pity on me and is actually fitting me in tomorrow on her own time (NHS). Honestly, I know the NHS gets a lot of stick, but they do manage remarkably well on the stupid budgets they have.
I can categorically say I'll never use BUPA again, ever.

(yes yes, I know, tl:dr)0 -

yep, absolute fucktards.
What I thought was more retarded though was that BUPA refuse to pay for me to get the MRI done at the hospital 2miles from my house, but instead want to pay for return flights, at short notice, plus transfers, plus overnight stay at a private hospital. I mean, that's going to run into multiple thousands. (although they did then try to further weasel out of the cost by saying I had to limit my transport to £240).0 -
Awesomeness on MTFU, as said in a previous post i'd have cried like a girl and called the whole search and rescue team out
Hope you heal up soon, least you can catch up on the www of p0rn0 -
LOL!
I've had many injuries, all sorted by the NHS (one major knee injury) and come out unscathed and because of that I'm not joining the work private cover (not just that though tbh - I thought it was part of my benefits... turns out its a benefit in kind so I do have to pay for it... feckers).
let us know how you get on!0 -
Well, that's that sorted.
I was expecting to be in the little MRI machine, the one that just slides over your leg, but apparently they don't have one of those up here, so I was in the full-size one. They're not kidding when they say they are noisy.
They cut my cast off so I could get it done. felt good to have some air around my leg, also noticed that I still have very little movement in it. Was hoping it'd move a little more freely by now. Feels like the pain is coming from the back of my knee now though, rather than my leg
Pics should be getting sent to me in the next day or so. I'm in no position to understand them, but I can have a look, and post them up anyway.
Follow-up with consultant is next week, so should find out then if I can go to just having a brace on for a while, or if it's surgery or whatever.0 -
good luck, atleast you are on the way to geting squared.
i remember having the casts removed when i broke my arms, they were more painfull then than when i broke them in the first place, summat to do with them being immobile fr so long, took a few days to get any decent pain free movement out of them.
suprising to see that bupa werent up to much for you, good to see the nhs have been so efficient. they get a right old slating by people but ive found them decent enough in my experience.
we have private health care where i work and it is top ntch, i wondered if i would pay for bupa if i ever leave my job but yours is another example of why it can be a big waste of money.0 -
It was a proper dogshit experience, it has to be said.
But I am under no illusions that it would doubless have been a much smoother process if I didn't live on a tiny rock in the irish sea which only has a single hospital.
It helps that we have a very good NHS trust here on the Island. Nice big modern hospital with plenty of staff serving a relatively small population = much shorter waiting times than some.0 -

Can you get some time in the hyperbaric to aid recovery?
I read somewhere that Connor Cummins amongst others have used it to help recovery from breaks.
Got to be worth a try!0 -
Bad times I'm afrid homos.
Just been to see the consultant, who has informed me that the MRI shows a Grade 3 LCL tear.
Apparently this is quite a bi deal, and is going to reuire some pretty hefty surgery. So hefty in fact, that the hospital here is not equipped to perform it so I have to travel to have it done by a specialist in Liverpool.
The doctor said it's such an unusual injury, this is the first one he's seen in over 2 years. So at least I'm special.
Depending on the outcome of the surgery, I'll be at least 4-6 months before getting back on a bike, and will quite possibly not be able to MTB again, ever. Which is a bit shoyte. Still, I'll deal with that if/when it arises. I'm pretty lucky that we have some pretty amazing physio docs over here, so my chances are good.
Still waiting on the MRI disc to come through the post. When it arrives though, at least I now know what to point out.0 -
That really sucks, all the best for a quick, safe successful Op as and when.
In the meantime enjoy being special and joining the ranks of most of the posters on here!0 -
That sucks big massive donkey sausage. I mean you have to go to Liverpool?
seriuosly though, without being gay, it does suck big massive c0ck and hope it all goes well0 -
Dude, sorry to hear about how bad it is! hope it gets better quickly after the Op, are you going with BUPA?
they did mine and its been brillo for the last 10 years, no dramas! i had a PCL and ACl reconstruction with a synthetic ligament!
key to recovery is listen the physio regarding stretches, you miss any of them and it takes longer to heal, and you'll need to strengthen your quads and hanstrings to help stabilise your knee after the 6 months and you have full motion. Squats squats and more squats!0 -
CWNT,
Sorry to hear the news, but rest assured they'll patch you up and you'll be back in the saddle in no time
Recall my previous posts, I was told in May 2008 I'd never ride a bike again after my compound fractures (6 of them) and here I am, a lot slower but still cranking away AND I [think] I have a few years on you...
Chin up and as this Thread grows, I hope to hear nothing but good news on your road to recovery0 -
Cheers all.
Yes I'm going with BUPA again. I know I said I'd never use them again, but unfortunately they are the only way I can get it done without having to fork out for flights and transfers and stuff out of my own pocket right on top of christmas.
I have no doubts I'll be back on 2 wheels again before too long. Work being very supportive, offering to sort out a 6month gym membership for me and letting me change my hours so I can go during the week when it's quiet. Which I thought was nice of them.0 -

Bad news man. Hopefully you'll be getting better soon though. Listen to the Physio, they do know what's bestIt takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.
