I hope I don't become like the old married couple on this thread and go on about how I was 1 second faster than someone else just because I got perfect traffic lights and was jet-propelled by eating beans for breakfast ;)

Nothing like a bit of banter. Now beans for breakfast :? - thats sounds like a good idea - watch out Ron.

DDD has TM on "power awesome" so Jens can't use that one.

As for jumping lights, taking risks. Balls to that. Many a light, cyclist, pedx has put paid to what would have been a decent time.

    Amen brother.

Millbank this morning was quite nice. But I still can't sort out my game for the ride home. 2nd fastest time for BF to Wst but only just got me into the top 3 for the week. I had an alright run from VB to CB and then a pretty quick run from CB to BB but the traffic from BB to AB killed it. Not sure if it would have got me a podium but I'll never know.

Used this for the first time today.

I feel it's going to bring a world of pain, looks fun though
  • Curate's egg of a ride today, more bad than good though on reflection. On the plus side, improved my standings on a couple of segments, including getting up on our very own Pufftmw on the Brookmill Rd sprint - only to find someone else has nabbed top spot! Bah!

I reckon I MUST be the fastest FCN 9 over it though, shirley?!

The locking nut on my cassette came loose AGAIN, so I couldn't use the bottom cog for most of the journey as it was flapping around loose - I don't think it slowed me down much but my little legs were spinning like a fisherman's reel the whole way. May have to think about a new cassette (and therefore new chain), which is annoying as I only put the current one on within the last year (possibly not very well, as it turns out...)

And for the second day running I developed a nasty headache whilst cycling. I of course prescribed some MTFU, but the dose obviously wasn't heavy enough as in the end it got the better of me and I was forced to pootle and lost a couple of SCR scalps as a result - good ones, too. Not sure what's going on, although I did get veh, veh drunk on Friday so perhaps it's an ongoing hangover effect from that.

Oh, and a van came within a gnat's chuff of ramming me at the Tooley St lights as I decided to stop on an amber, and he decided he was going through.

    Happy bloomin' Monday :(

Thanks JZed. Last week will go down as not one of my best but rested at the weekend so will have to mount a strong attack on the leaderboard this week. And maintain my top spot on Millbank N

I was going to have a go at that section this morning, then got stuck behind a bus :o

How does strava work regarding direction, does it have north->south and south->north for each segment?

Argh. Nodders in the cycle lane plus slow traffic meant I had to abort my Millbank Northbound run this morning by Millbank Tower :( Was going quite well even though I didn't get a good start away from the lights. Looking at the graphs it seems getting through on green could be worth four or five seconds. Not quite sure why Strava has the max speed on my ride at 43mph, wheel speedo recorded 37, quite a discrepancy, but still it's only out by 6mph as opposed to 906mph :)

Only if someone creates them - creating a segment in one direction doesn't automatically create the same one going the other way, if you see what I mean.

There is one going the other way on Brookmill so you can have a crack at that tonight!

After a very heavy weekend had a nice pootle in this morning expected to average about 18ish for the total commute but for some reason on strava it thinks I have average 25.4mph ???

    http://app.strava.com/rides/2088134

I can just about manage 22mph on my commute when really gunning it the whole way so its definitely an error that has occurred as I was taking it super easy, also the elevation is completely screwed up?

Looks like I'm accidental KOM on the Brookmill Road Sprint after I road that way on a ride from Blackheath to Chadwell Heath Essex (pretty quick ride considering I had Friday legs and some traffic) now I know that segment is there will proper gun it next time I go that way to improve my time

Just wait the pair of you, will retake that KOM :P

But James's Loampit Hill is going to be an absolute bugger to break! Was that vehicle draughting assisted? That's some average along that stretch...

Nope was nice and clear as was Friday lunchtime but just found it a nice fast stretch that was fairly easy to hold 25mph on might give it a go tonight to smash it if my legs feel good as well as my 2 day hangover! :D

I reckon that's about right, managed a stonking run (spent much of it above 30) through there starting from a red & although my garmin corrupted that ride I reckon from my camera replay I'd have been at about 1:05, not anywhere near my fastest time.

Swings and roundabouts, though. Whenever I've had a green I've also been delayed by traffic that has set off from the lights before me. (May need to get up earlier to avoid this...)

Or commute at the weekend like some other people....Could always have a drill for a server failure at 2am on a Sunday morning ;-)

A commutes, a commute - although weekends are much slower - standard of driving is much worse as are the pedestrians around Parliament who fail to understand the concept of pavement and road.

Oh just realised you were talking about Loampit Vale, now that was'nt an easy to take KOM as its very hard to stay clear of traffic at the start of the segment so hard to go in with loads of speed.

I though you guys were talking about the Brookmill Road sprint, gave it my second go tonight and managed to knock 5 seconds off with a bad start, I reckon I could get another 5 secs out of that segment. :D

First night using Strava - no chance on the Jamaica rumble due to lights and traffic, but had a reasonable run at the Brookmill reverse. Managed third, 6 seconds behind puff, was held up a little by traffic at the start though so may be able to get close.

    This could get addictive!
  • For some reason I don't get picked up on the Brookmill reverse. When I look at the map of my ride, for some reason it tracks me a little way off the road all the way down there, so maybe it never registers that I've started it. I could either try cycling on the wrong side of the road, or just take it easy down there and save my energy...

It tracked me this evening, but I'd rather it didn't, it was bloody windy all the way.

Managed to get along Embankment without a a red tonight, thought I was going to be on for PB until the lights at Richmond Terrace, so annoying

Did get PB on Millbank South mind.

Twas a tough night alright, with the very strange exception that the wind seemed to be behind me between Lewisham and Catford - normally one of the toughest sections I always find.
