I've had some inspiration! Can anyone remember those plastic wheel discs that were cool in the 90's? They were just two plastic discs that fitted to your wheels in the name of fashion? I think they may be what my creation needs to set it apart from the crowd? If anyone knows where to get hold of some? 8)0

What do people think this frame is worth? It's 530 Reynolds (not 531). If the guy gets back to me I'll go have a look next week, what should I look out for?
FFS I'm giving away a frame
Yes, I know it will be too small for you, but it will add to the comedy element!
You'd be better off going to your local tip and seeing what they have, they'll usually have wheels/tyres and BSO
Failing that a quick trip to http://www.retrobike.co.uk

If you thought Ebay was bad, this could be the start of a whole new relationship, and the end of one too
Snooks's frame looks very good, Old steel Marins are nice. If it was closer (and it had the bits I want ) I'd get it to build a bike for my 9 year old daughter, unfortunately too small for anyone else in my house.0 -

I had a raleigh bike when I was about 11 with them on, and I doubt very much that the whole bike cost that! I'll try and find a picture.0 -

Will my v-brakes fit this is the first question? Although does come with used cantilever brakes.
Will hub size is the next question?--

V brake mounts and canti mounts are the same. V brakes need more cable pull is why there is sometimes an issue with fitment.
For your hub spacing a bit of manipulation, also known as brute force and ignorance, should be all that is needed. Steel bends nicely without work hardening.0 -

Bottom bracket mount front mech. Big ugly bracket held on by BB goes up to hold front mech in place. Seem like a bit of a lash, easy in assembly but a pain for everything else.0 -
This seems to have turned into the post-an-ebay-link thread
Is anyone actually going to build a bike? :twisted:0 -

Amen! And I am currently in the process of coming up with weird and wonderful ways to bastardise said frame and turn it into something slightly outrageous with a hint of commuter practicality!0 -

Indeed it was only when I got home that I realised I had mistaken your attempt to get someone in to do some gratis rubbish removal, for generosity! Still on the brighter side I do know have a lifetime supply of tyre boots for emergency repairs!0 -

I'm much better at daydreaming about the bike I should build than I am at actually doing it. My rebuild of a 68 Triumph Bonneville has only been 3 years so far.0

Wheels are 700c hubs are road. It's got a new (1 year old) squared tapered shimano BB, the one on my hybrid was a "Sport Cartridge square taper 68x113mm" so that'll work (i think) with my tripple. I've worked out how to get a rack on it.
Next question is that it comes with some drop handle bars, so do I try and swap my tripple flat bar shifter and brakes for some 9 speed tripple STI and keep it as a drop bar or do I make it a flat bar.....
Got to win the auction first as well......--

I recon the end of the weekend would be a better bet, as that probably when most people have time to take stuff to the tip.0
