This got me thinking
The Yellow Peril
I'm working on a Project bike and have great fun failing to understand some rudimentary concepts in Fizzicks and technology (there is a NO in technology - this should be warning.....)...
anyway....
The yellow peril got me thinking.....
We should have a Frankenbike competition.....
A price limit on bit and pieces and if you have bits and pieces lying around then we'll have a tarriff for the "going rate...."
we'll need interest . . . and rules . . .
i'll kick off . . . .
200 bike vouchers limit all in - deduction in points somehow for breaching bike voucher ceiling . . . .
Going rates required
Frame
Forks
Wheels
Tyres
Rims
Spokes
Hubs
Caliper back
Caliper front
Brake levers
Deraill-e-oooer rear
Deraill-e-oooer front
shifters
cabling
cable outers
bars
bar tape

saddle
herman safety lollipop
Bandages

maybe some prizes for:
Best "I biffed it" story of fecking up
Best "bargain kit" found
Best looking bike
Worst looking bike
I'm in
I have my eye on this . . . .
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SONIC-fixed-l ... 23139af8e8
arf . . . .
I'm thinking that the frame needs to come in under 75 quid if it's stripped bare . . .

There may well be a lot of lying involved in the "going rate" and "just hanging around" space . . .
I'm thinking a swept 'tache bar pub cruiser will be my attempt . . . .
hmmmmmm
Edited to add
There are some freaky big frames on ebay - honestly who rides 60cm . . . .

I'm 90% there with an old Austrian-made Puch that had been abandoned. Now works, albeit with a stuck seatpost, original 27 1/4 rear wheel and a recycled Fulcrum Racing 7 on the front. Cost £82.83 all in, though I suspect that a new seatpost will need to be purchased. Suicide levers removed and replaced and a new seat added.
How do you post pictures on here?0 -
Greg T - I bought some cruiser bars, brake levers and grips with the same intention a few weeks ago but decided to convert the SS to FG instead (and keep with the drops). You're welcome to them at bargain price to get the ball rolling.0

The Orbea is a 61 cm, Hobbit boy.
Even my Giant is a 58cm and I'm only 5'9". Horizontal top tube frames do 'appear' to be larger than they actually are, I think.1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

I've got an old Carrera Gryphon frame, virtually complete - just needs a wheel and chain I think!. Might be two wheels now as I think I've been robbing spokes from the one left....Chunky Cyclists need your love too! :-)

I already have from the Sirius Comp
Carbon v-brake compatible Front Fork
Stem, Flat Bars, Shifters, Brakes, Grips
Seat Post & clamp
Saddle
Front Mech
Tiagra Rear Mech
Chain and Cassette
Tripple Chain Ring
Bottom Bracket and Headset
pair of v-brakes and new pads
panniers and rack
From the Genesis I have brand new Pair of Shimano RS10 wheels Tyres and Tubes.
All I need is a v-brake compatible frame that take 700c wheels, road hubs and rack / mudguard mounts, mudguards and a new cable set and winter commuter / load carrier is ready to be built.
I would also consider a swap on wheels for something a bit stronger if any would like to make me an offer.--

I'm already bidding on a MTB frame and suddenly realise I have no idea how cantilever brakes work . . feck feck feck

Double points if you actually build / re-build the FRONT wheel yourself (IF YOU DON'T ALREADY KNOW HOW!!!!)

Lovely 92 cindercone originally, stripped bare with on one forks and wheels. Now a superb pub bike with a taste for human blood (literally the headtube badge is human blood)0 -

I can help here: you pull on the handle thingy and the wheel stops.

Dunno, 52" is pretty huge.
I'm 5'10" and my Boardman is 58cm I think, Langster too.
Langster is 58 too. They might both be marginally too big to be honest - Langster was cheap and Boardman was Halfords advice before I knew anything.0 -

I maybe interested. Does it have brake callipers on it? Are they serviceable? What about the rest of the bike and bits?--

Do the boxing gloves have to come out of the budget too? Or can I use my wife's ones?0
