The home secretary, Theresa May, has just pretty much ruled on water cannon, in an interview on Sky News.

Totally agree, she's living in a different world. We need the Army on the streets and hard line taken. Water cannons, snatch squads and baton rounds need to be there from the start today in order to stop it escalating!

But if you bring in water canons and the army weedy liberals will want public enquiries for every broken nail and ruined hairdos which cost millions and take forever

truth is we live in a country of thugs and whingers. I agree with a hardline to it but then someone gets hurt or killed because they didn't do what the police told them to and it's another bloody enquiry. This happens because people aren't scared of our police anymore.

Notice how she didn't mention the UK, so as not to include Northern Ireland!

They were reporting this morning that they used some armoured police vehicles and charged the rioters and apparently "it worked" and they're considering doing it again. Seriously, some of these guys in charge should be given medals! :roll:

i think just the presence of two apaches with an odd warning shot would probably do it. I dont believe in harming the people rioting but seriously repremanding them by locking them away, but i mean lock them away, on their own, in a cell for one month on basic rations, bread/water and no exercise, the worse the crime the longer the time.

There's been hundreds of arrests already, you know, even before they start with the post-event arrests. Every police cell in London is full! Trouble seems to be just that the police are stretched too thin, like that video up the page, someone said "see how unprepared they are". They didn't look that unprepared, just hopelessly outnumbered... Because of it being not just one group, one riot, but flashpoints all over so they're spread thin.

Wonder if David Cameron's tough talk on TV will end with him explaining that he'll still be sacking 35000 coppers and cutting their budget by 20% eh.
