^^ I put that down to national pride and hoped I was right but I admit I did mutter "no he's leading him out you"..shall we say..."rotters" as they said that
Time for Thomas to have his own crack now, he's done enough leading out! We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

And me. I like Maggy and James Richardson but much prefer ITV post race analysis0 -

Me too - watch live on Eurosport, then switch over to ITV4 when the stage finishes, and always watch their highlights package.0 -
Eurosport also lacks the UK-centric aspect (for obvious reasons). So to get Wiggo's comments on the day, or to see where Cav is in the green jersey standings, ITV is the place.0
-
At least they know who they're looking at. Eurosport were going on and on about someone from HTC I think they said Matt Goss? going for the line for some time yesterday, while incongrously, the camera's beautifully unimpeded view of Cav's face as he overtook everyone and won made it very clear who was actually involved.0

The difference is David Harmon mis-identifies riders occasionally on Eurosport, Phil and Paul occasionally get the right one (I guess if you keep randomly saying names you're bound to be right some of the time).
I do think recognising riders during the Tour is pretty tough.
In F1 commentators frequently name the wrong driver during Grand Prix, even though there are only 24 drivers, only two per team, they have distinctly different helmets, clear numbering on their cars and the two cars on each team have a different coloured T-piece on top of the roll over hoop.
In cycling you have 200-odd riders with no visible numbers from the front or side with each rider wearing an identical kit to 8 others. Frankly it's a minor miracle that they ever correctly identify a rider.0 -

After his stage win, Cav said he had followed Wiggins's wheel in the sprint when it was actually Thomas. If he can't tell the difference between his own friends, what hope have the rest of us got.Twitter: @RichN950 -

I think he might be a bit Wiggins obsessed. The day before that he made a comment about Wiggins having a punt at the win, when it had actually been EBH0 -
Apparently their monitors are often SD while we're watching in HD lovelyness, might contribute to their difficulties vs what we see.0

Blimey Paul is getting all sweaty over HTC on the highlights tonight....0
-
Today Paul said that the two most common bones for cyclists to break are the clavicle, and a small bone in the hand called the scapula. The scapula is your shoulder blade, so neither small, nor in your hand. Presumably he was thinking of the scaphoid. Duh!0

David Harmonious has made me laugh out loud a few times already with his comments. I particularly liked the one - I think from yesterday - about the Europcar rider with the 'elfin ears'.'Google can bring back a hundred thousand answers. A librarian can bring you back the right one.'

Think Paul needs a new radio, always seems to be crackling...0

I cant believe they went to the ads with 1km to go on the main climb of the day and things happening.
Surely they could have waited 2 mins. I could say more but dont want it to be a spoiler for others watching later.Peter0 -

Your not trying to pin this one on the commentators? Damn them :twisted:0 -

No, I know all the commentators are fed a live stream and have to work round it. But its all part of the rich experience of being a customer.
Bit like slowing the rollercoaster to a crawl on the downhill bit just when you anticipated the good bit.Peter0 -

Come on guys, it was obviously the riders fault - sure I heard that they were 11 minutes ahead of schedule, they should have stopped and waited. Adverts come first unless you've taped it and can cut them out.
This is very difficult to work out as you have to start recording up to 30 mins. before starting to watch and the as you fast fwd. through the verts. then you get to the end in real time.0 -
"The riders completing this stage in an average speed of 38 minutes" - Paul Sherwen.
What!?0 -
he was constantly referring to "pushbikes" today
the weapon 'dont forget lads, one evertonian is worth twenty kopites'0 -
More of 'Sammy' Sanchez.....anybody else call him that?
I was waiting for them to call Luis Leon 'Lenny' Sanchez......All Road/ Gravel: tbcWinter: tbcMTB: tbcRoad: tbc"Look at the time...." "he's fallen like an old lady on a cruise ship..."0 -
I heard Paul say something about "The break away are going ballistic around these corners".
Bless them.
I do laugh at their interpretations of why riders are doing certain things as well - they are both going senile.0 -
Paul also seems to have a cheese map of France. Another fromage snippet today in the Massif Central.0

I love Phil and Paul!"That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college! " - Homer0

is 'Voeckler' really pronounced 'Voyckler' ? I didn't think it was.....but Liggett seems to think so. Sherwen clearly thought otherwise......0
-
Was reading this article when the following caught my eye:
"Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen’s Tour commentary is in most aspects impeccable: informed, knowledgeable, lyrically rich"
He's watching a different P & P to me then...0 -

But thats official pronunciation...
It's how non English speakers pronounce it. Why should we be forced to pronounce it like them.
When they say the Tour de France they don't pronounce France like the French do._____________________________________________

Because of the infamous press release saying that's how it's pronounced. They're not trying to be euro, they were given guidance on how to say it, and they've chosen to follow that.
Do you get all moody when people say "Paree - Roubaix"?Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0
