Did you find yourself talking about things he felt was "old fashioned" or did he talk about things you had never heard of? :P

The wife is a few years older than me but share a lot of similar interests and have the same broad outlook in life. Can appreciate that this is the exception rather than the norm though.

I met my wife on POF 4 1/2 years ago.....married 2 years now.......yeah you got to go through an awful lot of drizzle to find the right one but hey it was worth it in the end. Which leads me back to my first post in this thread about just going with the flow. I wasn't looking for a wife on POF and tbh I was more interested in playing the field but hey I found something else and just let it develop naturally.

Never give up and try and find someone you like rather than letting them contact you. The ones always contacting me were nowhere near what I was looking for but the ones I contacted were what I was interested in. Sure not everyone replied but a few did and a few of those were not what they were portraying but the one who was everything I wanted (and likewise for her I hope) is now my wife.

Who says internet dating doesn't work???

haha, no, being as he grew up in Finland, things were a bit different. I get that from my half-brother though - he's about 9 years younger than me and is always saying I'm really old!

There was a definite lack of things in common, and even stuff to talk about.
Plus he had teeth like a bag of spanners... [shudder]

Those Finnish are a bit mental to be fair.

My sister is 12 years older than me and I put a lot of my interests down to her (e.g. love of 80's music). Not everyone has that though (it's like having a conversation about favourite kids tv shows and saying Button Moon or Magpie...with them saying Teletubbies is really old fashioned).
Different nationalities can make it hard to find stuff in common as well. The wife was huge on Speed Racer as a kid...we never got that in the UK. Music was an issue as well (no MTV during the military junta in Uruguay). Where we clicked on was sense of humour and a love of film (sci-fi in particular)... just developed from there.

As Gizmokev says, it's about sorting through the crap (and you'll go through some amount) before you find someone that clicks and you're sorted. Don't totally close yourself off to the younger person though...you might be surprised

Out of interest what's the oldest guy you've dated? I ask because a friend of mine who is 25 has just officially admitted to seeing a Dutch guy we met at a festival in Portugal last year, he's 42. Is that too much of a gap in your book?

What would you say is your idea of the optimum age difference?

Age gaps mean nothing with the right couple. Age gaps mean a lot with the wrong couple though

You have thought by doing three at a time she'd have got there by now.

I think you are lying about your age.. are you after an older man because there is no way you look 32!

I prefer the older man to be honest.... most younger blokes are useless in so many ways it's not worth mentioning!

You don't mind a bit of grey hair then?

Is this you implying they would never have posted their poF profiles had they been munters (and were looking for compliments)?

So many replies to make, so little wit left.

I would like to clarify a point - I do, under normal circumstances, only see one guy at a time. I don't have a problem keeping a guy, just can't find a guy I want to keep at the moment. Someone may bring up the fact that I slept with a friend at the weekend... Well, what can I say, 10 months without sex was getting a little frustrating!

As far as age is concerned, I don't think I have an upper limit, as it's all down to the people involved. To be fair, my Dad is 70, and my stepmum is 47.... And he's known her since she was about 16..

    I'll shut up now!! Haha

I don't understand. I didn't have anything in the house to eat tonight, so I've spent most of the evening on that POF website. And I still haven't found a fish for my dinner.
    Now I'm bloody starving :(

I think I managed 7 months last year.......but for more than half of that time I was in a relationship!!!!

Looking back last year was not good. In 2010 I can count on one hand how many times, it is frustrating!

Hopefully, your relations with your friend have not harmed your friendship. I ended up dating my best friend a few years ago, and whilst it was amazing at the start it ended in inevitable disaster and I lost my lover and my best friend :( We are on OK terms again now but it will never be the same.

Does that mean you've got an account... god help those women!!

(I say this because I get to the 3rd lass and It then asks me to create an account.. and that would be going just too far /thoroughly disappointed as I am)
