    RIP Wouter.

I thought they were delaying the announcement so they could contact his family first.

    This is a terrible day.

Several skull fractures that you can clearly see on those images.

The reason why it took them so long to confirm his death is that they wanted to notify his family before releasing the information.

    Who are "They"?

Been confirmed on Italian TV, sadly.

Cheers, never quite sure what to say in these sort of situations. It's a sad day for his family and for cycling

Agreed. Just a terrible, terrible day for the sport and everyone who knew him. His family must be in pieces right now.

Tried to leave a condolence message on his website but it's crashed.

Sh1t :( feel odd. I've seen my fair share of messy crashes and death in real life and have always coped but I feel weird. Gutted for his expectant wife. Absolutely gutted :(

I could see it was bad from the first shots we saw on Eurosport, but hoped it looked worse than it was. This is horrible. RIP Wouter.
