Cleat Eastwood wrote:wow really liking this thread. some cracking images. How about putting in a bit of detail on them you know like camera used, aperature setting and stuff, gives the incentive to try new ways and techniques. Good stuff anyway.
For now though, if you right click, and save the image, then right click on the file and hit "properties", you SHOULD be able to see the EXIF data, which tells you what camera, lens, settings etc were used.0 -
Oh, now I ve got to choose and set my self up for a kicking!
Tom Brady - i particularly like this one as we were way up in the clouds and this was at maximum lens zoom and maximum in camera zoom.....somehow it worked OK

Hi all,
Not sure if these belong here but I thought I'd post some images I've taken, which are a bit different.
I'm into astro photography, not very good at it but I do enjoy doing it, when the weather, and all of the equipment is playing ball that is.
I can't work out how to include pics  so here are the links

Latest stuff from the Studio...
For those that are interested:
Nikon D3x with either Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 VR-II or DC-Nikkor 135 f/2
Bowens 500 monoblocs with 1.8m octabox (keylight); 1m softbox (fill); snoot (hairlight).
Black or white paper backgrounds.
Post-Processing: NEF/RAW opened in ACR and transferre to Photoshop CS4.
Levels, sharpened, beauty edits (face - mostly getting rid of blemishes), plus a skin-softening technique that's all over youtube, just do a search for portrait beauty editing and it'll be there somewhere - it's easier to watch a video than for me to try and describe it all.0 -

2 of my favourites snapped on Friday. I'm hoping to get a "proper" camera at some point because I'm starting to like this photography lark.

Wow, loving that top one, cwnt, awesome captue.0

Cheers
Took a good few attempts to get one with both wheels off. They're doing about 150mph by this point, it's a proper "blink and you miss it" spot to watch.
One more from the same spot:

Nice job cwnt.....proves its all about whats behind the camera not the camera itself.
Roy the Boy.....you must have one huge telephoto lens to get them...
In all seriousness you must have a long exposure combined with a sky tracking mech or am I completely wrong?0 -
Roy The Boy are those taken with an SLR on a telescope mount, or are they taken with one of those little CCDs you can buy for telescopes? They're some pretty awesome pictures!
A mate of mine takes some stunning high-magnification shots with a webcam, and a custom mount he's made to fit it to a Canon 600mm f2 L-series lens! The small size of the sensor gives immense magnification.0 -
Hi ya yeehaamcgee,
They were all taken with a mono CCD camera attached to a little 66mm refractor.
They are all long exposure images because the objects are so faint, each one would be made up of at least four hours worth of exposures, each individual exposure being at least 15 mins.0 -
Cool, I've heard good stuff about those ickle bitty CCD sensors, but never knowingly seen the results before. Stunning images.0

Cheers mate,
This is the kit I used to take them, mine is the set up on the right and all of those images were captured with the little scope on top and the bigger scope was taking care of the guiding.

And this is my visual scope although I haven't used it much because it's so bleeding big

That's because I'm a moody old git0

Jacqueline again...
The most fun was getting her all wet with a garden hose... I pointed out later I could have just as easily soaked the shirt in the sink before she put it on, but the opportunities for squirting nearly-naked girls with ice-cold water don't come around all that often...lol

lol...well I have to be more careful these days: the "Indoor Sgt. Major" will have my nuts off if I step over the line now...0

A few more - this time with a slightly different processing...
Without looking at the file info, tell me which one was taken with the 40 year-old lens...

lol...
That's the point - for the most people, this size is all they generally see of images shot today.
When was the last time anyone held a 'proper' print larger than A4?0 -

"most people" have arguably never seen large prints on a regular basis. That doesn't detract from the purpose of high quality optics and equipment.0 -
OK well the point really was - there is no discernable difference between the 40-year old lens (a manual-focus Nikkor AI-converted 105mm f/2.5) and last year's purchase, a DC-Nikkor 135mm f/2...
Obviously the older lens would exhibit more flare and CA under less-than-ideal lighting conditions, but here - no difference at all...
135mm lens
105mm lens (cropped from smaller area of original)

Pah, the two pictures are totally different. There's a thick strand of hair is across her right cheek in the top picture and...
(sorry, silly mood today ) :oops:0 -
lol...it's the rain - I sympathise - I'm on baby-minding duties instead of being where I should be: in the studio doing all the DIY refurbishment that needs doing...0

That, sir, is a quality shot, beautiful depth of colour.0
