One theory says that the decline of the local butcher shops means that there are no longer butchers giving out bones for dogs to gnaw on, which is what made the poo white in the first place.

This may be complete BS. I'm not a vet.

Dog food manufacturers are not allowed to put bone-meal in dogfood anymore (since the BSE scare). There is less calcium in dog food now, so no more white poo after the rain.

It seems that for the bankers, not much.
For those of us who have had to bail them out (i.e. the taxpayers) it seems to be quite a lot.

they get paid - and then get professional counselling afterwards

(The tax payer only actually bailed out RBS on the IB side, and gave a little free capital to BarCap).

From the guys I've spoken to who were involved in CDOs, the people making them were barely able to undetstand them.

Why is there always more up than down on a ride?

In terms of time there will always seem to be more up than down as it takes a lot longer to go up a hill of the same size than down it.

Same reason. Takes longer to ride a certain distance in a headwind as you're going slower than average, shorter with a tailwind as you're going faster than average.
