Considered Conti Twister Supersonics ? save around 100g on the Race Kings

However, they are only really useable in dry conditions
  • Coming to Hong Kong next month. Where can i buy Edge parts?

You could try one of my fav LBS, Flying Ball Here or Bull bike Here

But normally you would need to order in advance for Edge/Enve stuff. I get mine directly from the US or mostly from Germany :) I think Flying ball has a few Enve stuff.

Drop me a PM when you are out this way. If I'm not busy, I could help you out with some discount for you. Know these guys well :D

Thanks but I'm building a AM Bike not a XC bike. These tires are way to small, 1.9 size on a AM bike, I don't think so :)

You know The Conti Mountain Kings 2.4 are the biggest MTB tires I have ever bought. They look massive compare to all my XC tires. To me they look like motor bike tires

I have tried Conti Twister before on my XC bikes, they look nicer than they ride. Just OK IMHO even in dry conditions. If you are looking for small, lightweight thin tires especially for dry conditions try the following, Schwalbe Rocket Ron's 1.85, F.Freds. The one's I'm that I am using right now are Maxxis 330 flyweight and 285's :) Super fast and super light 8)

yeah, noticed you had a wiggle box in one of your earlier photos and you mention crc,
you still use these uk suppliers even though u are in HK??? (i know u buy specialist kit from germany etc but i'm a little surprised u still order from uk sites - i suppose u get tax free rates but is it really cheaper from these sites?

when you start weighing spacers, star nuts and bolts then you must be very serious.
i broke a set of carbon forks a couple months back, went around a few shops looking for a replacement armed with a set of scales, boy did i get some funny looks

Bike stuff is cheaper and expensive in HK. It all depends on what you are after. Big Company like Shimano and SRAM or main stream brands are pretty cheap. More exotic brands are available but because of "the middle man" it can be expensive. Complete bikes are very cheap compare to say UK as we don't have tax or VAT.
When I go back home (Scotland) I never visit any LBS (except of course for spares) It's just so dam expensive.
I order stuff overseas all the time. The dearest part is shipping so, friends and I share the the cost. CRC and Wiggle do free shipping but you need to spend a set amount of money. So we all find something to buy to make up the cost. EU has a high VAT so when i buy normally I will get 19% discount or more. Online stores like Nano, Dulight, starbike and r2 do great bike stuff ( I blame these guys especially Robert at r2 for making my wallet feel lighter every month:) )

I enjoy weighing parts. It's not serious just good old fun knowing what components weigh. Also I laugh and sometimes get annoyed that company's are way off, The "claimed weight" of an item, its so much BS. You know?
It can get addictive but I'm glad I enjoy riding just as much as building a bike. Not into the "show bikes". Don't understand it. So I'm really looking forward to this build. I just can't wait to push it to the limit. Summer going to be FUN 8)
Use to be into tuning Jap cars when I was younger, now THAT was expensive but tons of fun

  • when i am in HK i am surprised how much some bike and components (all the premium stuff) are, much higher than the UK

i've been reading another thread on this forum about cheap carbon frames from Hk,
i will try to track some of these carbon frame manufactureres when i am next in HK and see what is available.
it would be great to get a bargain but i am probably more excited about choosing the frame style i want and get it painted to how i want it to be, a bit more custom.
do you have riding buddies that use these bikes?
also do you know where i can source top end groupsets from HK cheap (both road and mtb), shimano or sram is fine - my budget unfortunately is not a bottomless pit like yours to spend on very exotic kit
i,m hoping to deal at trade level rather than though a reseller or shop (maybe bulk) if the price is right
love to bring some back to the uk, if deals are to be had will love to ship a container load back to uk

No way, nothing is more expensive than the UK. With VAT and exchange rates :) even the premium stuff. Guess it helps with my discounts.

Heard about these frames, there made in China. Scary stuff....STAY AWAY from it IMHO It maybe light and cheap but not worth the risk. Also so may fake brands of carbon parts. See alot of it on fleabay. I know a guy who almost lost his hand due to a fake carbon handle bar. Nasty stuff!

If you are looking to do some business with trading and selling bike parts then Taiwan, Taipei would be better. (The capital of bikes). I have a friend that does this and sell stuff via Fleabay and other sources.

Tell me about! You end up buying things you don't really need. I think I have over 12 pairs of sock, 8 pairs of gloves, hundreds of Muc off wipes, 3 different colours of Knog lights etc etc. CRC are very clever indeed

HK$2449 which is about (12.4) 197.5pounds (sorry no pound sign on my keyboard)
    and US$336 at wiggle

  • Some more parts arrived today.

The new quick release TUNE QR15 through axle which will replace the standard Fox 32 Talas QR15.
The standard FoX QR15 weighs in at 72g. The new TUNE QR15 just weighs under 40g! Bought the silver/chomo colour to match the hub :)

Also pick up another new saddle. TUNE Speedneedle Marathon (102.5g). It has more padding and is wider then the regular Speedneedle.
In two mind to which saddle to use. The TUNE saddle weighs half of the Fizik Gobi Xm Carbon rail saddle(206.9g). Guess it will depend on the ride of that day. My big bum is fan of both seats. :) Its ashamed that they don't do a lime green Speedneedle.

true, but as a student im pushing the boat out damn far already with my mojo build  id save more weight going for the new maxxis ikons instead of nobby nics, which considering things are drying out now, i might just do, altho i highly doubt my HD140 will weigh anywhere near as little as this

Yep, they have two different green's. Actually is pretty good value in saving 30grams especially if you are counting every gram towards my build. :)
