Hi guys,
Thought I would start up a new tread regarding my new bike for this year. The 2011 Cannondale Jekyll Carbon 1 Hi-mod. This will be my first AM bike and first non-lefty in a very, very long time.
I haven’t received the bike yet but should have it by early to mid to March. It has been on order since Oct 2010.

Plan to change most of the components once I get the bike. Some parts will be traded in and others will be kept as spares.
Some parts are similar to the Ultimate version but did not go for the Ultimate due to the colour scheme and wheelset. Not a big fan of the Crank Brother Cobalt.
As I have most of the components , I thought it would be nice to share some detail of it with you guys.

The Jekyll Ultimate version weights around 26lbs mark. I wanting my Jekyll to be less than 25lbs but this build’s first priority is strength and stiffness.
As the Jekyll comes with the new Reverb post its going to be tough to get it under 25lbs. If I plan not to use the post then it will be easier. Also may use 2.2 tires instead of 2.4 tires.
I guess I will have to wait and see until I receive the Jekyll before I make up my mind. So maybe around 25lbs would be more realistic.

My wallet has the biggest hole in it. The harder I work the bigger the hole . The wife is starting to notice.
If I was a incredible cyclist I would get sponsorship from some big a$$ company and not have to pay for anything. :) ......I wonder if I could ask Steve Peat SPS for some spare Enve rim's :wink:

    "Happy Lunar New Year".
Yep, does kind of feels like my first born, but it better not take 9months to get it. Cannondale are so behind with this year's 2011 models. Thinking I should have went with the Ultimate version as I would have got it now. "Come on! where is my bike!"

I'm going to be interested to hear your views on how the TALAS compare to your recent Leftys, since your so accustom to them.

I think your going to be rather surprised how well the most up-to-date AM/ trail bikes climb, the extra weight is about the same as riding with or without a full camel pack, and once you get over that peak, these new Jekyll's are going to absolutely bomb, so the extra Ibs are worth it for the extra fun factor alone :)

Happy Year of the Rabbit 2011 to you too mate !!
  • that must have cost a pretty penny :D
  • LOVE the list of parts already and waiting for the bike!!!
going to be something special thats for suure!!!

get your self a std DH bike, then every time you think its heavy, pick that up and then o back to the jekyll! 8)

John, i was just having a closer look at you impressive spec, as i only had brief scan earlier when i first saw your new thread, as i was a little busy at the time.

These Enve Rims are seriously cool, and damn light for the AM sector. This is the first time i have come across them.

I also noticed that you have gone for Tune hubs again, how have you found the robustness of them in the past?
I'm about to do a wheel build, and was thinking going for King and Kongs with ZTR rims and Sapim CX Ray spokes, but i'm a little hesitant about how strong the Tune's will be for Trail and AM abuse ( are Prince and Princess more robust?).

    Charlie..

    Charlie..

IMHO the strength/stiffness of a wheelset is more on the rims and spokes, not the hubs.
Are you going with Flow or Crest rims?
I was also heading towards Tune K&K hubs but I just couldn't help myself to the P&P limited edition hubs. Got a sweet deal plus you normal have to buy a complete package in order to get these. Also it is hard to find a full Titanium free hub.

The King and Kong is more robust than the Princes/Princess as it has less carbon on it. But of course it is heavier. Did you see that I have converted rear to X12 and the front to a QR15. This will make them even more stiff and I'm pretty sure they weigh the same as the K&K hubs now.
Saying that my Tune Prince/Cannonball sl hubs, XC Enve/Edge rims and Sapim CX Ray spokes wheelset on my Flash takes a fair amount of beating. I've had no issues with them at all.
The XC Edge/Enve rims are amazing, so stiff and strong with a rider weight limit of 110kg! So I knew I had to get the AM version,

This is a photo of the axles that came off the Tune P&P hubs. Check out the full carbon axle of the rear hub 8)
    TuneQuickReleaseConversionKitaxis9to15mm.jpg

I am currently using 3 wheel hubs. The I9, Dt Swiss 190 and Tune Prince and I like them all.

I know in the past many people have had problems with Tune hubs, but I think they are pretty reliable now. I've been using them for over a year with zero problems. Of course making sure they are always cleaned and the rear hub is well lubed.
Tune was always a work in progress kind of company but they are getting better and better. You know everything is hand build. I actually when to there workshop in Germany. Its a small wooden hut. :)

I wanted a bigger travel bike (150mm) and new Jekyll don't to lefty's. Also I want to try those strange double forks again
And has Tri-sexual said "lefty is not suitable for 2011 Jekyll" as the bike has a 1.5" head tube.

You mean POOR man :) I've done afew of the 7Stanes places, but I don't think I've done Cairngorn. I was back home in Scotland last Nov. Wanted to do some riding but the weather was so nasty and baltic! Man it was F#$K freezing. I don't know how you guys do it.
