For the R838 frame look for seller Carbonzone on ebay

I have been thinking about getting into TTs with the club at work and also love to buy new stuff... I am torn between something like this and the Dalkiia (http://www.dalkiia.com/) at £499 as their website says, you get the same for about £100 (assuming you have no charges to pay) and plus somene in the UK to talk to/turn iup on their door if there are problems. Ok the frame may come from China (I don't know) but the end point of sale would be the UK

Pretty sure you'll find that Dalkiia are no longer available.
  • Thx for all the feedback. Seems like the Chinese frames are good frames in terms of quality. Next question is which model is the most suited to a sportive and/or comfort?

Where would the best source of an FM015 frame be if I was also wanting to get custom paint? Are they easy to deal with or probs with language barriers?
Thinking about building a custom bike to a bit of a budget but getting it looking much more high end.

Send an email to 'Tony' at Dengfu, receive a reply, guaranteed, within 12 hours, with attached pro forma invoivce. Send money by PayPal, and your frame, providing it is in stock will arrive within 10 days. Easy peasy

Not sure of the odds of VAT and import duty being collected by evidence suggests that there is a good chance it won't be.

Note that the bloke selling frames on eBay as 'Carbonzone' is selling the same items as Dengfu, at slightly higher prices +~10%. If you want the comfort factor of eBay, that would be the way to go.

Moving slightly off the thread, which of the TT frames would people recommend out of the two. The FM020 or the FM018?

I am going to start TTs with my work club, would you recommend a ISP or non-ISP?

    Thanks

Hi proto, which one of the frames on Dengfu's websire relates to the R838 frame?

    Cheers.

similar but different head tube as the R838 has big bulge on the lower part whereas that one has it in the top part - persoanlly I like that one more than the R838 because if it - that one is very Trek-like

Which one did you buy, the Planet X Stealth look-a-likee or the Cervelo P3 jobbee?
  • ok, they seem like they might be ok but what about UK import tax?

    anyone have any ideas there?

the ebay ads inform that tax is the purchasers pronlem !!!

is there a lot of price difference between the £320 for a Ribble Evo Pro and the £200+ for a Chinese import and all the inherent risks & warranty-worries :?:
  • same as in the pic above , but mine is red and white, also bought handlebars off them which are v good to ,only little issue ,the under bb brake , is not brill., as its a centre pull, the tighter you have the brake , it puts more pressure on the little arms ,and they can bend,if you have brake loose ,not an issue, and you dnt brake much in a tt, specialised got round it by making a bracket so the cable feeds in at a better angle, apart from that its fab

Thanks, Chalford. Did you have any issue with the front mech mount being at the wrong angle/position? Do you have to use a centre pull type brake? Haven't got one!

I've been really interested in this thread as the thought of building a bike to my own spec really appealed - maybe making it look a bit different - getting inspriation from the likes of Baum, Parlee, Perigotti etc for the look of the bike and trying to find some components that are a bit different but still good quality.
A couple of ideas for the frame were (Cordis loosely translates to self, mine but hadn't finalised the name, also put Cordus instead of Cordis  )

    cordus_1.jpg
    cordus_2.jpg

Thats the good bit but having looked at this in a bit more detail, even though you can get the frame at a good price as you have to pay more for the rest of the components so you never really save money overall. Not a problem for those with plenty cash but thats not me. Even speccing with mid range stuff such as Athena, Ksyrium and mid range finishing kit you are still looking at around £1600. For similar money I can get a Canyon or Cube with arguably better frames, not quite so good wheels but the back up of a full warranty.

So while it would be nice to build a one-off like that above, for me the frame would still be a budget frame with decent components and I would rather have a better frame with lower spec components. Not taking away anything from the guys who have built some lovely looking bikes as shown on this thread but I have swung back to a Canyon Ultimate CF 9.0 with Chorus, Ksyrium Elites and quality finishing kit for around £2100 (Chinese frame with same spec would be around £2000).
Thought I'd add this in as initially I was getting carried away with what I could get but then sensible head kicked in :?
Good luck to those that do go down this route, hope you are delighted with what you build. I still want to build a bike like I did when I was in my teens but maybe when I have a bigger budget and can buy something like a Colnago, Parlee or similar.

  • kfinlay, I like the graphics on your frame. How did you create the image? Was it via a specific software application? As I'd like to have a try. :D

How much are you paying for your groupset?

    My bike worked out

    £414 for frameset ( frame,fork,bars,seatpost,headtset,bottle cage)
    £606 for groupset ( SRAM Force )
    £615 for wheels + tyres ( Shimano Dura-Ace CL Clincher 7850 )
    £142 for saddle + pedals + sundries
    £1778 total

I agree, you do need to find a good price on the groupset for this to work well...

GoingCarbon, I use Photoshop so nothing bike specific

Geebee, for that spec you gave that sounds about right but Chorus alone is £830 and I was not looking at buying chinese bars, seatpost or stem.
We're in the same ball park though and I do it was your bike that nearly pushed me over the edge :D
